After a breakout season at Chelsea last term, the start of the 2022/23 campaign hasn't gone as Trevoh Chalobah would have planned. Last season, the defender played 20 of Chelsea's 38 Premier League games as he established himself as an important member of the first-team squad after a series of loan spells.
Chalobah scored on his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace on the opening game of last season and he was used throughout the season by Thomas Tuchel. The 23-year-old started in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup final against Liverpool.
However, the arrivals of Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly have seen Chalobah's first-team chances decrease. He has played just one game in all competitions so far this season, which was in the 2-1 win over Leicester City last month. It remains to be seen what role Chalobah is set to play in Graham Potter's plans - but it's been a frustrating start to the season.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma are plotting a loan move for the Blues defender. Whether he moves out on loan is likely to depend on how much Chalobah features between now and the break for the Qatar World Cup.
A move to Roma could prove to be the ultimate learning experience for Chalobah, with the Serie A giants managed by Jose Mourinho. Under a manager like Mourinho, renowned for his defensive coaching, there is little doubting that Chalobah would return to Stamford Bridge a better player if he did join Roma on a temporary basis.
Across his career, Chelsea icon Mourinho has managed 1,059 games, conceding just 969 goals - conceding an average of 0.9 goals per game - emphasing just how well-drilled his teams are, something that Chalobah would benefit from. At Chelsea, Gary Cahill improved immensely under Mourinho's management, while at Roma, Chris Smalling has had his career revitalised under the Portuguese.
Working under Mourinho would likely be hugely beneficial to Chalobah's development, and a loan switch could reportedly happen if the defender's game time doesn't increase soon. A move would also see him link back up with Tammy Abraham.
