Trent Alexander-Arnold is a goal creating machine. He provided 18 assists in all competitions last season, the second most any Liverpool player has recorded in the modern era, behind Steve McManaman’s 20 in 1995/96.
Before his emergence, a defender hadn’t recorded more than 11 Premier League assists in a single campaign, and that mark had only been hit twice. Alexander-Arnold has had two seasons with 12, one with 13, and having only just turned 24 he is just outside the top 50 assist providers in any position for the last 30 years of top flight football.
Yet this season, he is yet to set up a goal. With over a quarter of 2022/23 in the books, Liverpool’s creative dynamo for the last four seasons has fewer assists than their goalkeeper.
