Parts of Scotland were affected by “tremendous" thunderstorms and lightning last night, as shown on live lightning maps.
The online maps show how the thunderstorms travelled across Scotland last night and into this morning.
The Met Office placed the majority of Scotland under a yellow thunderstorm warning from 3pm yesterday and warned there could be heavy downpours, lightning damage, and hazardous driving conditions.
The Met Office warning for thunderstorms and lightning is still in place over Scotland until 3am tomorrow.
What parts of Scotland were affected by the thunderstorms and lightning?
The lightning map shows how the thunderstorms and lightning started to spread over the northernmost areas of Scotland.
The lightning then travelled from the west and went directly over Glasgow and Edinburgh before travelling towards the North Sea.
Lightning maps work by using sensors found on the ground that detect the electromagnetic signals that lightning strikes produce.
You can follow the movement of thunderstorms and lightning using lightning maps that show all of the active storms around the world.
There is a huge cluster of thunderstorms currently crossing over the North Sea, meaning the weather should remain calm for a few hours.
However, there are a few active storms moving over Northern Ireland and into Scotland, so the area might see some more lightning throughout the day.
