Travis Scott and entertainment company Live nation have settled a lawsuit relating to the tragedy at 2021's Astroworld, almost one year on from the festival's deadly crowd surge.
On November 5, 10 people died and hundreds were left injured after the crush which occurred during the rapper's performance at his festival in Houston, Texas. The victims died of compression asphyxia.
Since then, the 31-year-old has been named as a defendant in several lawsuits brought by victim’s families.
One victim who died at the festival was 21-year-old Axel Acosta, who had travelled from Washington state to attend the event.
In an press release shared on Instagram, Tony Buzbee, an attorney for Axel's family, announced a "confidential" settlement had been reached between his clients and those named in their suit.
Sharing a picture of Axel, he wrote: " The Buzbee Law Firm announced today that the claims brought by the family of Axel Acosta against Travis Scott, Live Nation, and others involved in the Astroworld tragedy have settled.
"The terms are confidential.
"Victim Axel Acosta was a beloved son, brother, and student. He was kind and loving. He is greatly missed. Please keep his family in your prayers."
Tony's statement marks the first public announcement of a settlement being reached in the Astroworld legal disputes.
A coroners report released in December revealed that all 10 people killed died of compression asphyxia.
At the time, Tony said in a statement: "The report confirms what the family already knew, which is that Axel was crushed and killed that night by the crowd, through no fault of his own.
"It is also important to note that Axel’s blood contained absolutely no intoxicants or other like substances.
"Now that we have received the official results, I want to say to our police chief: Shame on you. Shame on you for perpetuating and giving credence to a silly rumour that people were being injected at the concert.
"In doing so, you added more pain to an already unbearably painful situation for Axel’s family."
Travis made headlines around the world following the tragedy at his festival.
The musician had been playing to a crowd of around 50,000 people, with the crowd surging when he took to the stage at around 9pm.
Travis was widely criticized for continuing his set for almost 40 minutes while unconscious bodies were pulled from the crowd.
He has denied negligence allegations and was said to be unaware of what was going on, only finding out hours later.
