Travis Kelce: there was ‘never a doubt’ Mahomes would complete trick pass

The Kansas City Chiefs are known for their high-flying offense, and when Patrick Mahomes completed a behind-the-back pass against the Detroit Lions over the weekend, national attention turned back to the defending Super Bowl champions.

Though Mahomes had been seen practicing the unconventional throw in training camp, many fans and analysts doubted that he would attempt it during a game.

But in comments to the media this week, All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce, who caught the legendary pass, told reporters that he wasn’t surprised, given Mahomes’ otherworldly talent and Andy Reid’s willingness to let his team have fun.

“I mean, don’t get me wrong, we’re – it was always fun coming in the building knowing that we got the guys that could do it,” Kelce explained. “That was never a doubt. Stuff like that, I guess you can see that it’s fun, that we like to come out here (and) play loose and play together and kind of be on the same wave. Football’s always fun when under (Head Coach) Andy Reid. He lets you show your personality.”

Stay tuned to see if the Chiefs can make another trick play work against the Chicago Bears on Thursday.
