Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes sued for trademark infringement

Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are being sued over the name of their steakhouse restaurant.

The Kansas City Chiefs players opened their Kansas City restaurant in September and named it 1587 Prime in a homage to their combined professional jersey numbers, with Mahomes wearing “15” and Kelce sporting “87.”

However, a recent lawsuit filed by Boston-based shoe company 1587 Sneakers accused the NFL stars, as well as their business partner Noble 33, of trademark infringement for the similar name, saying it has caused “significant harm to our business.”

“While we are fans of Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes and respect their accomplishments on the field and in the community, it’s important to acknowledge that — for years now —1587 has stood on its own, shaped by intentional effort and storytelling,” 1587 Sneakers co-founder Adam King said in a written statement shared on the company’s official Instagram page.

“From the onset, we have communicated a sincere belief that there is room for mutual respect and understanding,” King said. “That belief has not changed, and we continue to hope to resolve this matter amicably.”

The shoe company is asking the restaurant group to stop using the moniker and selling merch with the numbers on it because they allege it causes confusion. 1587 Sneakers did not immediately return The Independent’s request for comment.

Because of the similar names, the brand said that “scores of customers” have confused the shoe company with the Missouri steakhouse. 1587 Sneakers is also asking to be awarded unspecified damages.

The suit says 1587 Sneakers started selling its shoes in April 2023 and became popular enough to appear on Shark Tank in 2024, but did not receive an offer from the show’s investors.

The sneaker company applied for the “1587” trademark in the clothing category in October 2025, one month after 1587 Prime opened in Kansas City. The application is still being reviewed by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Kelce, 36, and Patrick, 30, applied for a “1587 Prime” trademark in the bar and restaurant category in December 2023.

The restaurant, which is located inside the Loews Kansas City Hotel, spans 10,000 square feet across two floors and has several private dining rooms. The menu includes luxurious foods like wagyu beef, togarashi-fried chicken and a Japanese A5 wagyu smash burger.

Neither of the football players have spoken out about the trademark infringement lawsuit. The lawsuit will decide whether the two brands can operate under similar names in different industries.
