Council bosses have asked an "illegal encampment" to leave the car park of a Nottinghamshire leisure centre. Travellers were seen occupying the car park at the Lammas Centre in Sutton-in-Ashfield on Tuesday, July 26.
Ashfield District Council officials have said they have issued a 'direction to leave' notice and want to reassure residents they are working hard to bring the matter to a "swift conclusion".
Councillor Helen-Ann Smith, deputy leader of Ashfield District Council, said: “Ashfield District Council is aware of an unauthorised encampment at the Lammas Centre in Sutton. Officers have attended the site and served a 'direction to leave' notice. We would like to reassure residents that we are doing everything we can to bring the matter to a swift conclusion.”

It comes after travellers were evicted from Dovecote Lane Recreation Ground in Beeston earlier this week after legal action was taken by Broxtowe Borough Council. Travellers have also recently been on Hetley Pearson Recreation Ground, off Queen's Road West and also at Highfields Park at University Boulevard. The University of Nottingham had ordered a group of travellers to leave after they pitched up last month (Friday, June 17).
