Scottie Scheffler Wins Travelers Championship After Defeating Tom Kim In Playoff

Scottie Scheffler saw off Tom Kim in a two-man play-off at the 2024 Travelers Championship after the pair both finished locked together at 22-under-par.

Kim, the overnight leader, made a fine birdie at the last to set up a shoot-out in dramatic scenes, as play was briefly held up Extinction Rebellion protestors.

However, for Kim, who began the day at -18, he could only bogey the first playoff hole as World No.1, Scheffler, recorded his sixth win in 10 tournaments, making him the first player to win that many in a season since Tiger Woods in 2009.

Scheffler, cradling his newborn son, Bennett, said: "It has been a great season and a lot of fun. Tom played his heart out and it was fun battling him today."

Amidst the chaos, Scheffler kept his calm despite protestors invading the 18th green briefly, with the American adding: "It was a bit confusing but fortunately the police did a great job."

Kim added: "I fought hard and played really good just to force a play-off. Not hitting the perfect shot hurts in the play-off but I played some good golf."

Updates from...

Hello and welcome to Golf Monthly's final-round coverage of the 2024 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.

The leaders are off shortly at 11:15am ET (4:15pm BST) in a group of three due to impending storms that are threatening to arrive later on today. Hopefully, everyone can make it around before that arrives, and a worthy champion will be crowned in what is the final Signature Event of the PGA Tour campaign.

Without further ado, let's bring you up to date with what is happening out on the course. Thank you for joining us!

FINAU IN WITH A CHANCE OF VICTORY AGAIN THIS WEEK

Tony Finau impressed at the US Open with a tied third finish and he has started his final round here with a birdie at the first to get to -15.

CAMERON YOUNG IS ON A HEATER

Cameron Young, searching for his first win on the PGA Tour, has continued from where he finished off with his third round 59. He has opened with three straight birdies and really means business. Is today the occasion where the American's putting holds up and he shows he can 'get it done'?!

MORIKAWA OPENS WITH A BIRDIE THREE

Collin Morikawa has to land silverware again soon surely. He has been in fine form recently and has also started with a birdie three.

LEADERS UNDERWAY ON FIRST

The final trio have started with Akshay Bhatia making a bogey after trouble in the rough, while Scottie Scheffler made par and Tom Kim too.

CAM YOUNG MAKES IT FOUR OUT OF FOUR!

What an incredible start from Cameron Young. He has now birdied his first four holes after also chipping in on the third. He is -18 for his last 31 holes after a stunning 59 on day three. He must now be dreaming of his first breakthrough win.

TOM KIM OPENS WITH SUCCESSIVE PARS

Kim has opened with successive pars following regulation golf in a composed start. Scheffler has done similarly while Bhatia has responded to his opening bogey with a bounce back birdie.

CAM YOUNG MAKES HIS FIRST PAR - ON THE FIFTH

Young, whose 59 yesterday was one short of Jim Furyk's record, has finally had to settle for a par on the fifth today after opening with four straight birdies. This time he left a birdie putt short in the jaws.

LAST GROUP ALL HIT THE THIRD GREEN

Kim, Scheffler and Bhatia have all found the par 4 third but face lengthy birdie putts. None of this group have come out firing and if they are not careful, Young, who has been blazing away, will overtake them. Scheffler was just a few inches off the green and opted to chip and lipped out as the trio all made 4s.

CAM YOUNG JUST SHOWS FIRST SIGNS OF NERVES ON 6TH

Cameron Young has a reputation for tensing up over a lead and he has just pulled a short four-foot birdie putt on the par 5 sixth which would have given him a share of the lead. He is such a strong player - he needs a win for many reasons , including silencing the doubters. He has then followed up the missed opportunity with a poor drive off the seventh before going to make par there and on the seventh.

FIST PUMP FROM TOM KIM ON FOURTH

Kim has just holed out from 13-feet for a par after missing the green at the fourth with his approach. Cue a fist pump from the leader who is digging in and remains one ahead.

XANDER SCHAUFFELE JOINS KIM AT TOP OF LEADERBOARD

Schauffele hit the par 5 sixth in two and has just tapped in for a birdie to go level with Kim.

HOW WILL KIM RESPOND TO LOSING THE OUTRIGHT LEAD

Tom Kim has just seen Schauffele move level with him on the par 5 sixth but has a chance to respond immediately on the same hole after a 221 yard shot to leave 73 yards in with a wedge which he puts to six-foot and converts.

CAMERON YOUNG REACHES THE TURN JUST ONE SHOT OFF LEAD

Cameron Young was tied 43rd at the start of yesterday's round and now he's one shot back on -5 for the day and -18 in total after a birdie on the ninth.

FRESH FROM HIS FIRST BIRDIE OF THE DAY ,  SCHEFFLER HAS ANOTHER CHANCE

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler has been slow to turn on the boosters on the final day  but has just rolled in his first birdie on the sixth and has then put his approach on the par 4 seventh from 177 yards to 15 feet which he pours in.

FINAL TRIO ALL HIT THE GREEN AT PAR 3 EIGHTH

Kim, Scheffler and Bhatia will have birdie putts on the par 3 eighth with Bhatia making his with a curling left to right effort. But Kim three-putts for a bogey to drop out of the lead.

FINAL GROUP ALL HIT THE FAIRWAY AT THE NINTH

Scheffler, Bhatia and Kim have all found the fairway on the par 4 ninth but Bhatia ends up dropping a shot as Scheffler makes par and the world No.1 is now out in front on his own.

DISASTER FOR CAM YOUNG ON THE 12TH

Cameron Young has dropped back after a double bogey on the par 4 12th, which included a penalty drop.

EAGLE BY RICKIE FOWLER WHO NEARLY HOLES OUT AT PAR 4

What a tee shot by Rickie Fowler at the par 4 15th, which is 293 yards, as he nearly holes his shot.

TONY FINAU HAS JOINED SCHEFFLER AT THE TOP WITH SUCCESSIVE BIRDIES

Finau now goes top of the leaderboard and will have a chance to post a clubhouse total. Finau has got to -5 through 12 holes and -19 in total after birdies on the 11th and 12th.

GREAT RESPONSE FROM KIM AND BHATIA WHO CLIMB BACK LEVEL

Kim and Bhatia have hit back with birdies on the 10th to move back level after being knocked off the top spot. The duo and Scottie Scheffler have then all hit the par 3 11th which is 158 yards. Scheffler burns the hole with his birdie effort as the trio all make 3.

FINAU MAKES PAR TO STAY AT TOP

Finau has just made a very nervy five at the par 5 13th after his ball circled the cup before dropping despite being 80 yards away in two.

FINAL GROUPING IN THE MAYOR'S OFFICE OFF THE TEE ON 12TH

Scheffler , Bhatia and Kim have all hit superb drives on the 12th and have birdie looks on the 12th but all their efforts slide by.

CANTLAY IS ON THE 16TH WITH A CHANCE TO TURN THE SCREW

No player has more top 5s than Patrick Cantlay in the last year without winning but he is in the mix today with a chance to triumph. He will be disappointed with his tee shot at the par 3 16th though after missing the green from 158 yards to leave a horrible pitch and now he has a 20 foot par putt which slips by.

WHAT A SHOT FROM SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER

Scheffler looks poised to take control of his battle for the title. He has just fired his second at the par 5 13th from 252 yards to 11-feet. Tom Kim has also hit the green but is 26 feet away. Scheffler taps in for a birdie and Kim also makes a 4.

SHOCKER FOR FINAU WHO GOES IN THE WATER

Fresh from a birdie on the 15th, Finau has just put his tee shot at the par 3 16th short into the water. Ouch. He has since taken a drop and wedged up to 17 foot and has a putt for a bogey as he misses and takes five.

TOM HOGE IN THE CLUBHOUSE AT -20

Hoge has putted out for a birdie and a final round 62 to get to -20 as he posts the clubhouse lead but it is unlikely to last long as Scheffler has wedged up to three feet on the 14th as he gets to -21.

SCHEFFLER WILL HAVE A LOOK AT THIRD STRAIGHT BIRDIE

After hitting the front to get to -21 and -4 for the day with successive birdies, our new leader Scheffler has found the par 4 15th - which is 293 yards - with a tee shot to 28 feet. Tom Kim has also made the putting surface but Bhatia is through the back. They should both make birdies after leaving eagle putts short.

LEADER SCHEFFLER FINDS THE 16TH GREEN

Scheffler could be on for a fourth successive birdie on the par 3 16th after putting his tee shot to 14-feet. Tom Kim has responded by putting his iron shot inside that thought which keeps his hopes alive as the lead is just one. Scheffler leaves his birdie putt in the jaws and has to settle for a three and Kim does likewise - what a missed opportunity.

SCHEFFLER TAKES AN IRON OFF THE PAR 4 17TH

Scheffler finds the fairway off the 17th tee with a 259-yard tee shot with his 4iron to leave 153 yards to the hole. Kim, trailing by one shot, goes with a fairway wood and will have an easier shot from 134 yards but it is Scheffler who gets his approach the closest at 16feet as the pair, who are both from Dallas, walk up the fairway chatting and smiling.

KIM MISSES ANOTHER BIRDIE PUTT

Tom Kim has had birdie looks the last two holes but has missed them both as Scheffler taps in for a par while Kim has a six foot putt coming back which he makes to keep the contest alive going up the last.

SCHEFFLER GOES UP LAST WITH ONE SHOT LEAD

Scheffler has found the fairway with a 292 yard fairway wood to leave 148 yards to the hole. Kim has hit driver 309 yards down the middle.

SCHEFFLER'S APPROACH TO 18TH FROM 148 YARDS ISN'T GREAT

Scheffler, playing first before Kim, has only hit his approach to the fringe of the green and has a 29-foot putt. If he makes a par then Kim can force a play-off with a birdie. Kim has a wedge to play in...

KIM HAS A STIFFED A WEDGE TO LEAVE A SHORT-RANGE BIRDIE PUTT

Kim has spun a wedge in close at the 18th to 10 feet after it span backwards. He is set to have a birdie putt to force a play-off if Scheffler fails to get a 3.

PLAY INTERRUPTED AT 18TH GREEN WITH PROTESTORS ON THE GREEN

More drama at the 18th green now with protestors on the green with flares and paint but police and officials are quickly on the case to disperse them and the players are preparing to putt out.

SCHEFFLER'S BIRDIE PUTT COMES UP JUST SHORT AND HE CLOSES ON -22

Great roll from Scheffler who shoots 65 to finish -22 as his birdie putt comes up just short. Now Kim will have a birdie putt which will force a play-off.

KIM SETTLES OVER HIS 10-FOOT BIRDIE PUTT

And makes it. We have a play-off with Scheffler and Kim on -22 together. They will now play the 18th again and they are cutting a new hole following the protest a few minutes ago which spilt some paint on the green.

PLAYERS HEAD BACK DOWN 18th IN BUGGIES TO PLAY 18TH AGAIN

They have cut a new pin which is 11 yards on and five from the edge after climate change protestors damaged the green.

BOTH PLAYERS FIND THE FAIRWAY UP FIRST PLAY-OFF HOLE

Kim has ripped a driver 321 yards down the middle and it will be Scheffler to play first from 280 yards down the fairway after taking his three wood at the 440-yard par 4. Scheffler plays first with a pitch wedge from 155 yards which he has spun in close to 22 feet. Kim has 111 yards left and his approach has come up short and plugged in the sand.

ADVANTAGE SCHEFFLER

Scheffler is on the green 22 feet away while Kim is plugged in the front bunker. He has splashed out and is 36 feet away and is next to putt again. He has to hole and Scheffler has to miss to keep this alive. Kim can only make a bogey at best now and Scheffler has two putts for the title.

SCHEFFLER WINS IT - HIS SIXTH WIN IN 2024

Scheffler's par at the last is enough to see off pal and fellow Dallas resident Tom Kim at the first play-off hole.
