A nifty trick can help you choose you bag a better seat on a plane without paying extra.
Flights can be expensive before considering the cost of added luggage or seat bookings, and even then, paying extra doesn't guarantee travellers the best spots on the plane.
If you really need to be sat with a specific person on a plane or have your eyes on a particular seat, going through the conventional reservation route is the safest way to go.
