A travel expert has led calls for the construction of a new terminal at Dublin Airport.
Air and Travel Magazine editor Eoghan Corry said passenger numbers at Terminal 1 have risen significantly since the start of the pandemic. He said that the airport would face additional pressure if left to rely solely on the two existing terminals at its base.
The expert said that travel has increased since the pandemic and that more measures were needed to reduce pressure on the airport. He said that travel this Easter was busier than anticipated and that the airport is gearing up for an influx of passengers over the summer.

He told Newstalk: "Any listeners who have been through the gates of Terminal 1 know how busy it can get there. Dublin Airport need to plan in the long term for 5 million extra passengers in order for it to stand still economically."
Mr Corry added that terminal capacity is worth reviewing as travel expands. There are existing plans to add new gates in Terminal 1 to help address rising passenger levels, while the new runway is also supporting additional flights.
A total of almost two and a half million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport in the month of March alone. International travel has not only recovered from its decline due to Covid-19 but now exceeds pre-pandemic levels.
