A broken rail has caused travel chaos on the East Coast mainline with delays and cancellations affecting LNER and Lumo services this Sunday (May 21).
Trains are unable to run between Doncaster and York after a rail broke at Colton Junction, with rail replacement services between the two Yorkshire stations.
This has also led to some services being cancelled, with Lumo confirming that disruption is expected to remain in place for the rest of the day as works to repair the broken rail are carried out.
LNER has arranged ticket acceptance with other train operators which can be found on the its website, while customers may also defer their tickets until tomorrow. Lumo has also been affected by the disruption and has ticket acceptance in place with LNER in both directions, and between London Euston and Carlisle on Avanti West Coast services.
On its Twitter account, LNER encouraged customers to apply for a delay repay if their journey had been affected, and issued an apology, saying: "We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to your journey today."
Thankfully for Gateshead fans, the Heed Express, operated by Lumo, has arrived in London ahead of the FA Trophy Final after a delay of forty minutes. Fans who have travelled to the capital will be hoping to see Gateshead bring back their first ever FA Trophy to the North East.
