Travel chaos as serious crash and fire causes M62 closure

Parts of the M62 eastbound are currently closed after two incidents.

There is travel chaos across Merseyside and Cheshire, as two separate stretches of the motorway are closed towards Manchester. The first closure started last night, on Monday, January 30, after a HGV caught fire.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and closed both sides of the motorway while firefighters tackled the blaze. The fire has now been put out, however, as a clean up operation takes place, J7 A57 Warrington Road (Rainhill Stoops) to J8 A5281 Burtonwood Road (Warrington West / Burtonwood) are closed.

There is traffic leading back to J6 and on the M57 back to J2 (Prescot). As well as slow traffic on roads through Rainhill and Widnes as people divert around the closure.

A closure is also in place at J10 M6 J21A (Croft Interchange) after a serious crash involving two lorries. It is reported that congestion is back to the M6 Southbound to J26 (M58 Orrell interchange).

Slow traffic is also being reported on routes through Winwick and Lowton as people find alternative routes. The second incident happened just before 5am this morning, January 31, between the slip roads which has blocked the road.
