A trapped driver was cut free from his car following a crash in Bury. Emergency services were called to the two-car smash in Walmersley Road at about 4.30pm on Tuesday.
Firefighters rescued an elderly man from inside one of the vehicles. Two adults and two children were checked over by paramedics before all five people were taken to hospital.
Following the crash, police shut Walmersley Road in both directions between Palatine Drive and Springside Road. The road has since been reopened. Images from the scene show damage to one of the vehicles involved.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called at around 4.30pm to a report of a collision involving two vehicles on Walmersley Road, Bury. The occupants of both cars remain at the scene and officers are responding to the incident with colleagues from NWAS and GMFRS."
A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “At around 4.30pm this evening (5 April), we were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Walmersley Road in Bury involving two cars. Two fire engines from Bury and Ramsbottom and a technical response unit from Leigh attended the scene and extricated one elderly man from one of the vehicles.
“Two adults and two children self-rescued prior to the fire service arriving and were assessed by paramedics. All casualties have been conveyed to hospital by North West Ambulance service. Crews were detained for almost an hour.”
