New Delhi: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday that he is going to propose 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on diesel vehicles to discourage automobile companies from manufacturing such vehicles running on “most polluting” fuel.
Speaking at the 63rd Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Convention, Gadkari said, “I am requesting the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to impose an additional 10 percent GST on diesel engines/vehicles. This is the only way to phase out diesel vehicles.”
He also added, "I have already drafted a letter and I am meeting the FM this evening, will increase taxes to such an extent that it will become difficult to sell diesel vehicles." (Agencies)
