Transfer roundup: Trippier open to Bayern move, Al-Ettifaq want Doucouré

Bayern Munich have firmed up their interest in Kieran Trippier, with the Newcastle defender believed to be keen on the move.

With Thomas Tuchel, the Bayern manager, a confirmed fan and Newcastle restricted by profit and sustainability rules, Trippier’s departure to join Harry Kane in Bavaria has become a distinct possibility.

Negotiations are taking place with a view to a permanent deal, rather than a loan, though Bayern’s concurrent interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Nordi Mukiele, 26, also a full-back, comes into consideration. At present, PSG have been unresponsive to Bayern’s approach.

Trippier, 33, joined Newcastle two years ago this month as one of the first signings of their Saudi-funded reboot and has become a highly popular player, also captaining Eddie Howe’s team. This season has seen a notable drop in high standards from the former Manchester City, Burnley, Tottenham and Atlético Madrid defender, however.

Meanwhile, Everton will have to ward off an approach from Al-Ettifaq, a midfielder light after the departure of Jordan Henderson, with Abdoulaye Doucouré’s representatives approached by the Saudi Arabian club. Doucouré, playing in an attacking midfielder role, has been a key player for Sean Dyche’s team but financial realities may kick in.

Elsewhere, Brighton have confirmed the signing of Valentín Barco from Boca Juniors, who has joined on a four-and-a-half-year contract. The 19-year-old arrives having made 35 first-team appearances for Boca.

David Weir, the club’s technical director, said of the Argentinian: “We have been aware of Valentín for a long time and have been impressed with the progress he has made at domestic and international level.

“We’re delighted to welcome him to the club, and we are looking forward to seeing how he progresses and develops under Roberto [De Zerbi]. He has played predominantly on the left side, as a full-back, wing-back or winger, but also shown his versatility with Boca, playing across the midfield.”
