Transfer News: Eric Dier left in limbo as Jordan Henderson accepts new challenge

Tottenham will not discuss a new deal with Eric Dier until the summer.

England star Dier, 29, has a year left on his current deal but the club policy is not to discuss contracts until the summer. Dier has been at Spurs since 2014 and has made over 360 appearances for the club since arriving nine years ago. He has been a relative mainstay of the side's defence this term, making 42 appearances in all competitions.

Spurs want to strengthen their defence this summer, no matter who is the new manager, and Wolves defender Max Kilman is a strong target.

Henderson ready for new challenge

Jordan Henderson is ready to fight for his place in Liverpool ’s midfield next season.

The Liverpool captain will see the Reds’ midfield ranks refreshed this summer, with the club confirming on Wednesday that three stars - James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - as well as striker Roberto Firmino are leaving on free transfers.

Next year will be Henderson’s 13th at Anfield and speaking at an NHS Charities Together event in Crewe, he said: “I am sure players will be coming in at some point to give us a boost and freshen things up a bit and hopefully put us in good position come the first game of the season.

“It’s always a challenge, especially at Liverpool, there will always be challenges for places and to play games.

“That’s the case ever since I came to the club. Come pre-season I’ll be ready for the challenge again."

Waiting game on Gyokeres

West Ham and Wolves will have to wait to see if Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres comes on the market this summer.

Both are keen on the £20million-rated striker, who has starred in the Championship this term.

But with the Sky Blues having booked their place in the Championship play-off final - they’ll meet Luton Town - he could be heading to the Premier League without the need for a move.

Southwood in demand

Cheltenham Town are keen to sign Luke Southwood.

The goalkeeper was released by Reading on Wednesday following their relegation to League One and is wanted by a number of clubs.

But Cheltenham, where Southwood has previously spent time on loan, are hoping to persuade him to return.
