Trans woman given OBE says she 'fears what the press reaction will be'

New Year Honours

A TRANS media activist who has been recognised in the New Year Honours list has said she feels "fear" over what the media's reaction will be. 

Helen Belcher, director of Transactual and trustee of Trans Media Watch, has been made an OBE – but worries that people will protest against the award.

She is the latest of several people who have been honoured over their work for the trans community in recent years, including actress and campaigner April Ashley, Northern Ireland trans firefighter Karen McDowell, and political activist Christine Burns.
