Trams queue back-to-back in Manchester city centre as Metrolink lines hit by delays

Trams have been pictured queuing up in Manchester city centre as a number of Metrolink lines are hit by delays.

Our photographs show a number of services backed up on approach to Piccadilly Gardens and towards Market Street on High Street past the Arndale Centre.

According to Metrolink's website, 'minor delays' are hitting six lines currently.

And 'severe delays' are being reported on the Eccles via MediaCity line, with tickets being accepted on buses.

Tram faults and points issues are being reported.

Metrolink has apologised on its website to passengers left inconvenienced.

Minor delays are being reported on the Altrincham and Ashton-under-Lyne routes.

Metrolink has reported a tram fault - and said services travelling in both directions between Deansgate-Castlefield and Altrincham, as well as in both directions between Piccadilly and Ashton-under-Lyne, are currently affected.

A points fault is affecting services in both directions between Victoria and Bury on the Bury line.

In the city centre, trams aren't calling at Exchange Square.

"Due to a points fault at Victoria services towards East Didsbury will not call at Exchange Square they will operate via Shudehill and Market Street.

"Services towards Rochdale & Shaw and Crompton are unaffected," said Metrolink.

The issue is also affecting services between Deansgate, Castlefield and East Didsbury.

And Metrolink added: "Due to a tram fault we are currently experiencing severe delays on the Eccles via MediaCityUK line.

"Services travelling in both directions between Deansgate-Castlefield and Eccles are affected.

"Due to a points fault services from Eccles towards Ashton will not call at Media City, customers are advised to use Broadway platform.

"Services towards Eccles are unaffected and will call at MediaCity. Customers can use tickets on the 33, 50 and 70 buses

"Metrolink apologises for any inconvenience this may cause."

The Manchester Airport and Rochdale via Oldham lines are also being hit with minor delays - with a road traffic collision being reported.
