Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh marries Taggart actress, sharing gorgeous wedding snap

Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh has married Taggart actress Emma Currie.

The Scottish writer, 63, shared a gorgeous picture of the happy couple in their wedding attire on Instagram, writing: "Knot tired. All good in the world. See you later, alligators."

Irvine's 1993 novel Trainspotting, about a group of drugs addicts in Edinburgh, is a cult classic and was turned into a film of the same name, which acted as a launchpad for Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor and Harry Potter star Kelly Macdonald, in her debut.

The movie was voted the public's favourite Scottish film of all time, in a 2004 poll for The List magazine.

In the wedding photo, Irvine and Emma sit on a wooden bench with their arms around each other, Irvine keeping it simple in a grey suit with a blue shirt, and sunglasses.

Emma wears a white dress with a plunging neckline, ruched sleeves and a loose fitting skirt.

Her blonde hair is loosely pulled back, with a crown of white flowers adorning her blonde locks, matching the bouquet resting on the bench.

Emma was a regular on the TV screen in the 1990s, appearing in Scottish police drama Taggart five times in different roles, between 1988 and 2008, according to her IMDB page.

She has also appeared in fellow crime show Rebus, as well as Doctors and Rab. C Nesbitt in 1990.

Police shows seem to be a common theme in Emma's career as her first role was in The Bill in 1988.

The Bill was the longest running police procedural series in the UK, with the final episode airing in August 2010.

Friends and fans were quick to congratulate the pair on Instagram, with one person writing: "So beautiful. Congratulations."

Another wrote: "Absolutely sensational, gaffer, congratulations."

A third person quipped: "Congratulations... May your dreams come true."

In April, the novelist shared that he was engaged, posting a picture on his Instagram of a beaming Emma, showing her ring to the camera.

He wrote: "My god. She said yes. Pissing wet day in Scotland but she said yes. So f**k everything else. Never been so happy in my life."

Irvine, who is also know for his novels Filth and The Acid House, told fans on Twitter in September 2020 that he and Emma met during the coronavirus lockdown and enjoyed a "more old fashioned courtship", as they got to know each other.

He tweeted: “Have been enjoying a Covid romance that blossomed into a relationship. Was great to be able to take things slowly, with distanced walks and talks, before it got more intimate. More like an old fashioned courtship.”

According to the Daily Record, Emma is the managing director and founder of Acting Up, an organisation which focuses on using the theatre as a means for workforce engagement.
