Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh gives away free Europa final ticket to Rangers fan

Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh has given one lucky Rangers fan the chance to go to the Europa final.

The famous writer took to Twitter last night to offer up a ticket for the game in Seville - which are like gold dust.

Rangers secured their place in the Europa League Final for the first time in 14 years after a 3-1 victory against RB Leipzig, meaning they will take on Eintracht Frankfurt in Spain on Wednesday, May 18 in the final.

Tens of thousands of Rangers fans are preparing to travel to Spain, many without tickets to the match.

And Irvine's kind gesture will mean that one less fan will be frantically hunting for a ticket.

Taking to Twitter, Irvine wrote: "As @WestHam unfortunately didn’t make the Europa final, I now have a spare ticket. Rather than waste it I would like to donate it to a Rangers fan. This is not a hoax, please get in touch if interested. Will need details to transfer it to your phone as guest for UEFA security."

This morning he posted an update saying the ticket has been snapped up.

He added: "Hi everyone just to say that the ticket has gone to a guy on here - he’s been in touch with his details and we’re just waiting on UEFA completing the transfer. Sorry I couldn’t have helped out more people who wanted to see the game. If any @WestHam mates are holding, check my TL."

Hundreds of fans had flocked to the comments.

One wrote: "I would be interested Irvine, traveling with with friends and everyone has ticket bar me."

And the author replied: "You have DM."

While another fan joked: "I’m going to keep this pretty simple Can I get it please?"

And one said: "Hi Irvine. No sob story here, but really want a ticket. Live down in London now and was up at the semi final. Everything already booked, other than securing a ticket."

Irvine has had lots to smile about recently as last month, he got engaged to Scots actress Emma Currie.

The couple started dating during the Coronavirus lockdown after meeting in 2020.

He captioned the happy post on social media: "My god. She said yes. Pissing wet day in Scotland but she said yes. So f**k everything else. Never been so happy in my life."

In September 2020, Irvine told fans on Twitter that he had met his girlfriend during lockdown and enjoyed a more “old fashioned courtship” as they got to know each other.

He tweeted: “Have been enjoying a Covid romance that blossomed into a relationship. Was great to be able to take things slowly, with distanced walks and talks, before it got more intimate. More like an old fashioned courtship.”
