Train operators warn Scots not to turn up to station as services cancelled due to forecast

Train operators have warned Scots not to turn up to stations because services have been cancelled due to the extreme weather forecast. Avanti West Coast - who run between Scotland, Carlisle, Birmingham New Street and London Euston - has withdrawn all services for the rest of today.

Passengers have been warned not to turn up to the station as soaring temperatures have reportedly caused multiple incidents across the network. Customers are being urged to use their tickets tomorrow or Thursday, or claim a refund.

It comes after the UK heatwave cancelled Edinburgh trains to London today, causing travel chaos for Scots commuters. No trains have been running beyond York, and all services from Edinburgh Waverley to London Kings Cross have been suspended since 11.30am.

The recent commotion means that Network Rail has urged customers not to travel north out of London altogether, despite some trains bound for London Euston still running, although subject to major disruption.

The station posted on social media asking travellers who haven't been able to journey to Scotland via Kings Cross not to use Euston as an alternative as "it could get really busy".

They cautioned that some of the tracks could heat up quickly, meaning they would have to be closed and journey times could be further affected.

An amber weather warning for extreme heat is in place until midnight on Wednesday for eastern, southern and central parts of Scotland.

Weather experts believe temperatures could pass the August 2003 record of 32.9C at Greycrook in the Scottish Borders.
