Drivers at 12 train operating companies are set to strike at the start of next month, potentially impacting the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham.
The Press Association says it understands that the walkout is planned for October 1 to 5, encompassing all four days of the annual party political conference which starts on October 2.
If it goes ahead, it will be the latest in a summer of disruption by trade unions in a long-running row over pay at the train operators.

This has already seen strikes at the end of June and also action at the start of the Commonwealth Games in July, also held in Birmingham.
Planned industrial action by drivers yesterday was called off as a mark of respect following the Queen's death.
The drivers' union Aslef would not be making any public comment until after the Queen's funeral on Monday, the Press Association said.
Industrial disputes in the rail industry and other sectors, including post and telecoms, have led to a summer of strikes which are set to resume in the coming weeks.
