Additional checks for train passengers who purchase discounted tickets using railcards will be implemented from April, as part of a trial to combat ticketing fraud.
If successful, the scheme will save £20m a year in lost revenue, while avoiding confused passengers from being prosecuted for fare evasion, the Department for Transport says.
