Train company offering jobs up to £70,000 with no experience needed

A train company is looking for new recruits with no experience while offering to pay up to £70,000 a year.

Avanti West Coast is looking to hire more train drivers with a full wage that could reach £70,000 within the first few years.

The train operator has announced 40 jobs will be available in 2022 while urging more women to consider themselves for the role, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Richard Morrow, Head of Drivers at Avanti West Coast added: “Train driving is a wonderful career, one that carries a lot of responsibility and job satisfaction.

"Whilst the application process is competitive, if you think you have what it takes, then we’d love to hear from you.”

Applications for the job had already opened for the first ten new positions with more to be advertised in June for the North West and Midlands.

The recruitment process included an online Train Driver Q&A which also features Hayley Richardson, a newly qualified train driver who talks about her experience.

Over 1,000 people tuned in to hear Miss Richardson who spent ten years working for the Cambridgeshire Constabulary, even qualifying as a detective Constable.

She also spoke about her training and what it's like to drive a train going as fast as 125mph.

She said: "I absolutely love being a train driver. I wanted to do something out of my comfort zone, and I would encourage anyone, especially women who are looking for a career change or have their hearts set on becoming a driver to put in an application."

To apply for the job and be considered, applicants must be over 20 years and six-months-old, live within an hour of their depot while meeting required medical standards.

A website has been set up by Avanti West Coast which provides advice to people thinking about joining the industry while also giving the option to sign up for job alerts.
