Two people are dead after their motorhome and a truck collided in Victoria's north west, continuing a horror month on the state's roads.

The two vehicles crashed in the town of Speed, near Ouyen, at 11.20am on Thursday.

The driver and a passenger inside the motorhome died at the scene and have not yet been formally identified.

The male truck driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Investigators are probing the circumstances of the crash and have asked witnesses or anyone with footage to come forward.

Some 263 lives have been lost on Victoria's roads this year, up from 218 at the same time last year.

In November there were three other fatal crashes involving the deaths of multiple people.

Two children and three adults died when a car crashed into an outdoor area at a Daylesford pub on the Sunday before the Melbourne Cup.

Less than a fortnight ago, four colleagues died when their rental car crashed at Piries near Mansfield and two others were killed when their hatchback hit a ute and truck carrying sheep near Bendigo.
