A mum has told of her heartbreaking final moments with her teenage son as he lay dying in her arms. Daniel Gee-Jamieson was just 16 when he lost his life after being stabbed in a park.
His mother Mandy Jamieson told how he said to her: "Mum, I just want to go to sleep." And as she held him the colour drained from his face as the blood poured from his body and he passed away.
Now, five years on from the tragedy, Mandy has paid tribute to the "relentlessly bullied" youngster who had only wanted peace in his life. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo she said: "He was a mummy's boy and I'm not ashamed to say I loved every minute of that.
"He's the only one of my kids that looked like me, the girls look like their dad. He was funny, very quick to have a laugh but had a big heart.
"People think kids with ADHD are naughty, they aren't, they have feelings they just struggle with their emotions. He was a good kid, he caused murder in my house daily but I wouldn't change him for the world.
"Me and his dad miss him and that's wrong, his life was over too soon. I miss him so much. You have a heart and it's like someone has taken a quarter of it away so I'm not complete anymore. I'd much rather them have taken me than him."
The family saw their lives turned upside down on July 3, 2018. Daniel had been in a park in Gateacre, Liverpool when he was fatally wounded by being stabbed in the leg. Mandy said: "A lady knocked on my door and grabbed me saying my son has been stabbed, it was only at the top of the road. His friend was in the car crying, saying he was sorry.
"We were only in the car seconds but when I got there it was chaos. A woman had her hands inside him trying to stem the bleeding. It was horrific."
She said Daniel had been "relentlessly bullied" for years and had decided to put an end to the matter once and for all. She said: "He asked for a straightener and he won the fight, but he was stabbed and it was a catastrophic bleed."
Following her son's death, Mandy set up Danny’s Place, a social enterprise keeping his memory alive. It involves speaking to young people about the wider effects knife crime has on all those involved.
Danny's Place has now teamed up with the Ava White Foundation to launch a petition for a law change to ensure anyone found guilty of illegal possession of a knife will receive a mandatory 10-year sentence.
Ava White was just 12 years old when she was killed by a boy just two years older than her after an argument over a video posted on Snapchat in November 2021.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was jailed for 13 years after stabbing the schoolgirl in the neck with a flick knife in Liverpool City Centre. The petition can be found here.
