Authorities in Texas are currently investigating a devastating incident that occurred on Saturday, resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving another individual seriously injured. The incident involved an oversized piece of equipment that came off a trailer and landed on top of a vehicle, trapping the occupants inside.
The tragic event unfolded just before 11:30 a.m. on Saturday when emergency responders were alerted to a collision on State Highway 36, located just west of Highway 317. Upon reaching the scene, rescue crews discovered that an oversized load had dislodged from its trailer, crushing a vehicle underneath its weight.
Reports indicate that the equipment being transported by the fleet weighed approximately 350,000 pounds, although the specific nature of the large object has not been disclosed by authorities.
Tragically, three individuals were trapped inside the vehicle as a result of the incident. Regrettably, two passengers succumbed to their injuries, while the third victim had to be extricated from the wreckage and airlifted to the emergency room due to life-threatening injuries.
The extrication process was a challenging endeavor, taking over four hours to safely remove the driver from the vehicle. Temple Fire and Rescue deployed ten units and 25 personnel to the scene to provide assistance and support during the operation.
As the investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing, authorities have refrained from releasing the identities of the victims involved in this tragic event. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones affected by this heartbreaking incident.
