Several of Grenfell Tower's hero firefighters have been diagnosed with terminal cancer, reports MirrorOnline. A Mirror investigation has revealed the deadly legacy of the 2017 blaze, which killed 72 residents.
Members of the fire service who fought the towering inferno, some aged only in their 40s, are suffering with rare cancers. The Mirror is reporting that these are linked to the high levels of unprecedented exposure to contaminants during the huge rescue effort.
Up to 12 have had a cancer diagnosis, the majority of which understood to be digestive cancers and leukaemia, for which there is no cure. Those who have not yet been diagnosed have told the Mirror they fear for the future, with some cancers taking up to 25 years to appear.
