A woman has died following an incident at a County Durham viaduct.
Emergency services were called to the area in Bishop Auckland on Wednesday afternoon following reports of a fall at Newton Cap Viaduct. The road was closed in both directions and police advised motorists to use another route.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service were also called to assist at the scene and confirmed that their critical care team were activated at 12.26pm to reports of a fall at Bishop Auckland. They arrived on scene at 12.37pm.

Sadly, on Wednesday afternoon Durham Constabulary confirmed that a woman had died. A spokesperson said: "At 12.20pm today, we attended an incident on Newton Cap Viaduct, in Bishop Auckland, in which a woman in her 40s tragically died.
"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death, and a report will now be prepared for the coroner."
