Tragedy as teenage girl with 'heart of gold' dies in North Shields flat fire

A fire that tore through a Tyneside home early on Monday morning claimed the life of a teenage girl.

A body was found after in the property on Vicarage Street, in North Shields after the blaze broke out at just before 3.30am.

Police say formal identification is yet to take place, but officers believe it to be 18-year-old Leah Casson.
