Tragedy as man found dead on farmland after walking home from the pub

A body has been found in the search for a missing man in Hull, police have confirmed. Jamieson Scott didn’t return home on Saturday evening after going to a pub in Beverly.

His family launched a public appeal to help find home on Sunday afternoon. Jamie, as he was known to his family, did not arrive to pick up his beloved dog Jasper after his trip to the pub, which was extremely out of character for him.

The appeal was shared over 5,000 times on Facebook and a search party went out to look for the 53-year-old grandad. It is believed that Jamie was heading towards the Flemingate Tipi between 6pm and 7pm, when he instead chose to walk home to Kingswood, HullLive reports.

READ MORE:

He would usually walk his dog Jasper on the route along Hull Road or along the Bank of the River Hull. Police announced that they found a body on farmland between Weel and Hull, which they believed to be Jamie, on Monday afternoon.

Here is what is what HullLive knows about his tragic last movements:

Sightings:

It is believed by Jamie's family that he was spotted twice on his walk home on Saturday, December 17.

They posted on social media that at around 8pm, Jamie was helped by a lady but "insisted on walking home to Kingswood from Hull Road, Beverley". His family thinks he then headed towards the Jet Garage after 20 to 30 minutes.

At 8.40pm, he was then spotted again on Grovehill Road in Beverley. The total length of the journey to get home would have been over five miles.

Weather:

For both Beverley and Hull, a yellow ice warning was in place for Saturday evening. The week had seen temperatures plummet to below freezing and schools and businesses shut due to the cold conditions.

The temperature at the time was likely -1C to -2C, but would have felt even colder. In an updated version of the Facebook appeal, Jamie's family also expressed their concern for the weather and said: "The weather is really bad please keep sharing".

Heartbreakingly, the police believe that Jamie "sadly succumbed to the weather conditions over the weekend".

Police and family statement:

Humberside Police first issued an appeal to find Jamie on Sunday, but by Monday afternoon, it was reported that there was a sad outcome. Superintendent Rhod Troake said: "This is a tragic incident, and for his family and friends this is an outcome that no one wanted to see.

"Jamieson was reported missing after he had not been seen since he had left a public house in Beverley on Saturday December 17. It is thought that he had tried to make his way home and sadly succumbed to the weather conditions over the weekend.

"Although formal identification has yet to take place, Jamie’s family have been informed and are being supported by officers. Our thoughts remain with them and his friends at this extremely difficult time.

"Our initial enquiries have been carried out and his death is not being treated as suspicious."

Jamie's family members then announced the news to the thousands who had helped share the search. The statement read: "Thank you all so much for sharing my recent post regarding Jamie Scott.

"The post reached THOUSANDS of people and we are so grateful for the power of Facebook as it gave the family a starting point to our search and rough time frame. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, from my mother-in-law who has lost her brother and not on any social media she is blown away with how fast news spreads and the generosity from people willing to help who don’t even know us. Again thank you."

Tributes

After the sad news arrived on Monday afternoon, hundreds of messages of support and tributes flooded in. Jamie was described as a "fantastic grandad", friend and dog lover.

Some kind words read: "Lovely man, was a pleasure to meet him when walking the dogs, he always had treats for them all. Sincere condolences to his family and friends."

Another said: "So sorry for your loss. We saw Jamie and Jasper all the time on the river bank. Jamie would feed my dog treats. Such a friendly man. Condolences to you all."

Jamie and Jasper seemed to warm the hearts of many, as another person added: "So sorry for your loss, I think we groom Jasper Jamie's dog at the salon I work at. Jamie was a lovely man and always put a smile on our faces when he brought Jasper in, I am so sorry to hear this has happened to him."

Another wrote: "Please send my condolences to the rest of the family. We are heartbroken, he was such a great man and a fantastic grandad to my kids. Sending my love to you all."
