A 14-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulty in a canal in Yorkshire, police have sadly announced.
The boy, who has not been identified as of Monday morning, was swimming in the River Aire in Leeds close to a Lock at Knostrop Fall Lock 3, off George Mann Road, Hunslet. It's thought he disappeared from view from friends he was with.
They desperately tried to save him before alerting emergency services who arrived within minutes. Despite their best efforts, his body was pulled from the lock around an hour and a half later, Leeds Live reports.
Now, a spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police has confirmed he has passed away. She aid: "At 4.32pm yesterday (Saturday), police received a concern for safety report for a male in the canal by Thwaite Lane, Leeds. Emergency services attended and recovered a teenage male from the water.
"He received medical attention at the scene, but was sadly pronounced deceased a short time later. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been prepared for the coroner."
