JODHPUR: In yet another incident of threatening the life of traffic policemen, a car driver in Jodhpur drove for over a kilometer with a traffic constable stuck on its bonnet on Sunday evening to escape the fine for not wearing the seat belt.
The driver stopped the car only after a biker blocked the path.
The driver has been identified as Gajendra Salecha (57), a stationery businessman. Salecha has been arrested along with his wife, who was accompanying him but did not stop her husband from engaging in this fatal misadventure by threatening the life of the traffic constable.
SHO (Dev Nagar) Jai Kishan Soni said that constable Gopal Bishnoi was on duty in housing board area near Central Academy School on Sunday evening.
“He stopped the car after seeing both the driver and co-driver not wearing seat belts. In his attempt to stop the car, he came in front of the car. The car driver almost stopped the vehicle but suddenly hit the throttle to flee”, said Soni.
Bishnoi was hit by the speeding car and fell on the bonnet. He caught hold of the vipers and managed to stick to the bonnet. He also kept on yelling to stop the car and sought help from others, but unfazed driver kept speeding the car until a biker blocked the path and forced the driver to stop the vehicle.
After receiving the information, the police reached the spot and arrested the Salecha couple. The constable, however, did not receive any injuries and escaped unhurt.
