IMAGES have shown traffic struggling through flood water as heavy rain hits Scotland.
A Met Office warning for rain and snow is in place until 11.59pm on Monday, December 30 with an amber alert issued for parts of Scotland on Hogmanay.
A snow warning is also in place for Orkney and Shetland on December 31 while a wind warning covers the south of Scotland as well as Glasgow and Edinburgh.
ScotRail update
A number of updates have been issued by both ScotRail and Network Rail Scotland on Monday amid disruption to public transport.
As it stands, services between Inverness and Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street will be cancelled delayed or revised.
Network Rail said in a statement: “We’ve had to close the Highland Main Line at Kingussie, due to river levels on the Gynack Burn rising above safe limits.”

A separate post meanwhile stated: “We’ve closed the Crianlarich-Oban line, due to a report of flooding between Tyndrum Lower and Dalmally.
“Our control room is arranging for a response team to attend, to inspect the track for any potential damage.”

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency also has a number of flood alerts and warnings in place.

- Boat O’Brig to Spey Viaduct
- Spey Viaduct to Spey Bay
- Dallas to Doual Bridge
- Glen Nevis
- Loch Lochy to Torcastle
- Lochybridge
- Upper Tay
- Glen Lyon
Flood alerts meanwhile are in place in the following areas:
- Argyll and Bute
- Caithness and Sutherland
- Central
- Easter Ross and Great Glen
- Findhorn, Nairn, Moray and Speyside
- Skye and Lochaber
- Tayside
- Wester Ross
- Western Isles
Perth and Kinross Council has confirmed that it has closed its flood gates while John Swinney has urged people to stay safe.
Responding to news of the amber warning, the First Minister said: “This is a significant update of the weather warning for the Grampian area to amber level.
“Please follow all advice and stay safe.”
