Trade Package Between Jets, Packers Altered If Rodgers Ruled Out for Season

Jets coach Robert Saleh fears that an MRI will confirm a torn Achilles tendon for star quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Tuesday, putting the season in question for New York in a year where expectations were incredibly high.

Although the Jets beat the AFC East-rival Bills in overtime in Monday night’s season opener, there is little optimism around the franchise given the nature of Rodgers’s injury. However, at least the Jets won’t have to send a first-round draft pick to the Packers to complete the trade to acquire Rodgers if the quarterback is ruled out for the season.

That’s because the trade agreed to in April stipulated that the Jets would send a 2024 second-round pick to the Packers if Rodgers played fewer than 65% of the team’s offensive snaps this season.

With that threshold looking extremely unlikely as of Tuesday morning, it appears the Jets will likely keep their first-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

The Jets obviously would prefer for Rodgers to be healthy, but if there was any sort of silver lining to the quarterback’s injury on Monday night, perhaps this is it.
