TPCH preps two projects in the region

TPC Power Holding (TPCH), the renewable power generation arm of construction firm Thai Polycons Plc, expects to conclude soon its new clean energy projects in Myanmar and the region.

The company is pushing ahead with the projects after seeing growing demand for clean energy, notably biomass and waste-to-energy projects.

TPCH is conducting feasibility studies with local businesses.

Kanokthip Chanpalangsri, chairman of the TPCH executive committee, said at least two new projects will be concluded.

One is the development of a clean energy project and the other is the acquisition of a renewable energy facility currently in operation, she said.

In Thailand, TPCH is preparing to co-develop 5-7 new waste-to-energy projects, each with 50% investment from the company.

For existing projects, TPCH is building two biomass-fired power plants in Pattani's Mae Laen and Yala's Bannang Sata districts in the South, each with electricity generation capacity of 2.85 megawatts, said Cherdsak Wattanavijitkul, managing director of TPCH.

The two biomass-fired power plants are expected to start commercial operation in the first quarter of next year.

TPCH is operating a total of 11 biomass-fired power plants across Thailand with a combined capacity of 116MW.

The company is implementing a plan to reduce its operational costs by improving the quality of biomass fuels and, at the same time, lowering its usage, but achieving higher efficiency, said Mr Cherdsak.

TPCH is searching for low-price fuels such as bamboo, grass and empty fruit bunch, which is derived from leftovers from palm oil processing.

Operational and fuel costs make up around 70% of the biomass power business.
