Love Island fans were stunned after a Stormzy track written about host Maya Jama featured in tonight's (January 18) episode of the reality show . Along with the surprising appearance of the British rapper's song, the episode featured two new bombshells, Zara Deniz Lackenby-Brown and David Salako enter the villa and go on dates with original contestants Tanya and Ron.
The show often features popular romantic hits in the background of the show to enhance the viewers experience, and match the vibe of the scene. As Tanya and Ron got to know the 'bombshells' on their dates Stormzy's track Hide and Seek played, which Love Island host and ex-girlfriend Maya Jama is widely believed to be the subject of, reports Bristol Live
The pair dated between 2015 and 2019, and rumours swirled the pair were re-coupled shortly following Maya's announcement as the new host of the popular programme in October. She has officially put the whispers to a stop since, confirming she is "really, really single" in a recent interview, but fans continue to yearn for the popular couple to reconcile.
While Stormzy is best known for hard-hitting, thought-provoking rap, the tone of the track is more somber, with the music video showing the breakdown of a relationship while he reflects on what the pair once had in an apartment they once shared.
Viewers were shocked that Hide and Seek was featured in tonight's episode only days after Maya made her hosting debut on the show. Ri Ri tweeted: "Love island are toxic, they’re playing Stormzy’s song dedicated to Maya Jama LOOOL."
@emcilday said: "Using stormzy’s song lmao don’t do maya dirty"
