Break-ups can be messy affairs, especially when there is animosity from one or both sides, it often leads to petty arguments and resentment. However, sometimes things can go too far, like threatening to take your partner’s cat and give it to your neighbor which is exactly what happened to one woman on TikTok.
Describing the break-up with her ex-boyfriend from hell, Natalie claims that the cat they got together just before things fell apart was a point of contention between her and the ex. It’s not that the ex wanted the cat for himself, (which would at least be somewhat understandable), it’s the fact that he went behind Natalie’s back and promised the cat to his neighbor whose own cat had recently passed away.
Naturally Natalie wasn’t inclined to agree with this plan as she had grown fond of the cat and was fully ready to care for it on her own. However, her boyfriend argued that she wasn’t capable of doing so and that she was being selfish for not giving her cat away. Natalie had also been paying for the cat’s vet bills and covering other expenses, they may have gotten it together, but at this point the cat was hers.
The ex refused to give up
Despite Natalie’s refusal, her ex was insistent, even getting his mom to message her in an attempt to guilt-trip her into giving away her cat to a stranger. Despite this, she held strong and when commenters asked if she kept the cat she confirmed that she had.
The harassment campaign left Natalie feeling paranoid, while she had had her ex round a few times to watch the cat she now felt concerned that he or his mom would come around and try to cat-nap her pet which she claimed was the only thing during that period which gave her happiness. Thankfully that never happened. In another video she posed with her cat who is named Mako.
However, the fact that the ex and his mom were so insistent, even going as far as going behind her back to make a promise to their neighbor without checking first shows how vindictive they truly were. It’s obvious that this wasn’t about doing the right thing and helping out their neighbor, it seems much more like a ploy on the ex’s part to hurt Natalie by any means possible.
Commenters pointed out that the neighbor could have easily gotten another cat from one of the many that get left in animal shelters all the time. “Why did they care so much?” Asked one, another simply wrote, “if it’s your name on the vet bills, the cat is yours, end of story.”
