Residents of a local town have been ordered to "shelter in place" after a man tried to run over two police officers with their car.
Police in Virginia, US, are on the lookout for an 'armed and dangerous' man after he stole a police car and firearms from officers.
Jerrod Celablee Brown, 34, crashed the stolen car and fled the scene on foot as residents have been advised not to approach the man following the dramatic incident.
Police are searching for the fugitive in the Southside of Pulaski after putting out a plea to locals to stay away from the man and call 911.
The incident has led to local schools being told to stay inside as well as the local neighbourhood during the hunt for Brown.
Pulaski Police issued an urgent statement on Facebook asking all residents to stay inside: "All residents in Southside should shelter in place. Do not approach subject. Call 911 if you see anything suspicious."
Brown is known to police and has a string of offences behind him including drink driving in 2007 as well as drug and alcohol related incidents.
He has also been charged with trespassing and assault in his long list of offences.
The "armed and dangerous" man forced police to put the area in a near lockdown as authorities tried to keep residents safe.
Schools in the area were told to stay inside as a precaution which included, Pulaski Elementary School, Critzer Elementary School, Dublin Elementary School, Pulaski County Middle School, Pulaski County High School, and the School Board Office.
However, the schools were keen to stress there are no issues inside the buildings and the action taken was following police advice.
Residents have been asked to avoid the area of Valley Street to Draper Mountain Lookout - and traffic was not permitted to cross the area.
Pulaski County Public Schools said in a statement on Facebook: "Due to an incident in the town of Pulaski, we have notified Pulaski Elementary School, Critzer Elementary School, Dublin Elementary School, Pulaski County Middle School, Pulaski County High School.
"And the School Board Office to shelter in place until the situation is resolved. This is just a precautionary measure and there are no actual issues inside any Pulaski County Public Schools buildings."
