Town hit with dispersal order over weekend following recent anti-social behaviour

A dispersal order has been placed around different parts of Leigh over the weekend due to anti-social behaviour.

Police have placed the order in and around the Parsonage Retail Park and across other areas in Leigh.

The move comes in response to 'vehicle based and youth anti-social behaviour' that has been reported in the area.

The order will be in force between 3pm on Saturday (March 5) until 2am on Monday (March 7), this will allow officers to direct any person to leave a place within the area and not return, or risk arrest.

Police are also increasing patrols in Leigh Town Centre, which is also under a dispersal order and Parsonage Retail Park.

The area that the dispersal order covers (GMP)

A GMP Leigh, Atherton and Hindley said: "In response to recent vehicle based and youth anti-social behaviour in and around the Parsonage Retail Park and across other sites in Leigh,

"Dispersal Powers have been authorised for the area pictured on the map and they will be in force between 3pm on Saturday 5th March 2022 until 2am on Monday 7th March 2022.

"Note that Leigh Town Centre itself is already covered by a Public Spaces Protection Order.

"The powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 allow officers, if required, to direct any person in a public place within the designated area to leave and not return during the period in question.

"Failing to comply with the direction is a criminal offence and liable to result in arrest.

"We are increasing our patrols in response to anti-social behaviour in the area and will have additional officers deployed in both Leigh Town Centre and at Personage Retail Park.

"Some access points to Parsonage Retail Park may be temporarily restricted during the evening period on Sunday 6th March 2022 and as part of our activity we will be taking enforcement action in relation to the anti-social use of any vehicles and where necessary we will seize them using powers under the Police Reform Act 2002."
