A 27-year-old Italian holidaymaker has been killed in France after she was hit by a falling shutter while going to a restaurant with a friend.
Carlotta Grippaldi, from Turin, died after she was hit by a shutter that fell on her in the old town part of Briancon, in southeastern France on Saturday August 13.
Carlotta, who was on holiday, had been leaving a restaurant with a group of friends in the historic town centre, according to Italian media.
But she was reportedly hit by a shutter that fell from the second floor of a building.
She was given medical attention at the scene but she died in an ambulance while being taken to the Briancon hospital, according to French media.
Carlotta reportedly had a degree in economics and business from the University of Turin, as well as a master's degree in marketing and digital management and was passionate about the mountains.
In 2019, she reportedly studied to become a skiing instructor, according to Italian media, who have reported that she worked in the touring area as a skiing instructor.
The shutter reportedly detached from the window and fell just as she was passing by below.
The local prosecutor's office has opened an investigation for involuntary manslaughter and endangering the life of others, according to French media.
The police investigation into the young woman's death is ongoing.
Earlier this month, a Brit tourist was killed in a freak horror accident when he was decapitated by helicopter blades in Greece.
The Oxford Brookes student Jack Fenton died instantly when the rear rotor blade of the Bell 407 hit him in the head at the end of July while holidaying in Greece with family and friends.
Robin Stanton-Gleaves, the chairman of Bromley football club and the father of Mr Fenton's school friend, Jack Stanton-Gleaves, accompanied the boys on the trip.
He was on the second helicopter flight when he suddenly received a text from one of his sons, who was with Mr Fenton asking him to call him.
Greek aviation investigators said Mr Fenton had ignored safety instructions and claimed he was taking a selfie by the spinning blades which is what caused his death.
Their allegations have since been retracted and now there's now an ongoing inquiry by the Greek Aviation Authority into the 22-year-old's death.
