Tourist hotspot in South Korea closed at night after man falls to his death

  • Night-time viewing at Cheonjiyeon Falls on South Korea's Jeju Island has been suspended after a tourist died following a fall.
  • The man in his 50s fell approximately two metres into the pool while taking photos and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
  • Seogwipo city government has cordoned off the area and cancelled night access through the end of September while safety measures are reviewed.
  • Police are analysing CCTV footage and witness statements to establish whether the victim fell from a restricted area or if facility management contributed.
  • The incident marks the first fatal fall at the popular tourist location since admission fees were introduced in the 1970s.
