Matt Targett has spoken of Newcastle United's disappointment following their late loss to Everton on Thursday night. The Magpies had seemed to have the game in their hands but failed to capitalise as Alex Iwobi struck a late winner during a period of 14 minutes of added time.
There was such a large amount of stoppage time due to two lengthy interruptions as a protestor tied himself to a goalpost - taking up ten minutes - whilst Everton's Allan was given a red card following a VAR check which took up several more minutes. The stop-start nature of the half is something that Targett referenced when speaking about how the Newcastle team struggled to maintain a rhythm:
"I don’t think we started the second half as good as we could have. Just little things that gave the crowd a lift. To be fair, the crowd helped them a lot second half, they were good," Targett told NUFCTV. "It was a difficult game, a lot of stop-start. It was hard to get into a rhythm."

The Aston Villa loanee explained how personally disappointed he was in the result and that the team knew it was an opportunity missed.
"A tough one to take. First half we edged it with a few good chances. Maybe should have taken one of those. Second half was a bit disappointing. Probably the first time since I’ve come where I’ve felt a bit disappointed. It’s an opportunity missed tonight, for sure. We could have definitely climbed up a couple of spots."
