Touching tributes paid to cyclist in 20s killed in Putney lorry crash

Moving tributes have been paid to a cyclist in his 20s who died after being hit by a lorry in south-west London on Saturday.

Police and paramedics rushed to the junction of the A3 West Hill and Lytton Grove in Putney around 1.45pm on Saturday, to reports a lorry had collided with a cyclist.

“Despite the efforts of paramedics, the male cyclist sadly died as a result of his injuries,” said a Met police spokesperson.

Flowers and cards bearing touching tributes have since been laid near the scene in Lytton Grove.

One appeared to name the victim as Dean, in a message that read: “I miss you terribly.”

Another card read described the victim as “my lovely friend”, adding: “The unfairness of this has caused a huge weight on my heart.”

“How such an unremarkable event could happen to someone so special feels like a cruel joke,” the message continued.

“I’m really going to miss your unwavering enthusiasm for all life has to offer (especially the finer things). You really had a way of looking at life in such high definition.

“I’ll try and be more like you in that [regard] from now on.

“Here’s to you, I’ll think of you whenever I have a sip of an amazing glass of red.”

Initial reports by police suggested the man killed had been a pedestrian, but they Met has since confirmed he was riding a bike.

“The family of the cyclist, who was in his 20s, have been informed and are being supported by Family Liaison Officers,” said a Met spokesperson on Tuesday.

“The driver stopped at the scene. There have been no arrests.”

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information which could help, such as dash-cam footage of the scene between 13:30hrs and 13:50hrs on Saturday, 2 November, to please call 101 quoting CAD 3850/02NOV24.
