Tottenham vs Nice first-half player ratings: Doherty and Bissouma impress, Sanchez sloppy

Fraser Forster

Started his first game in the mid-season break after picking up a minor knock in training. Saved well early on to deny Ross Barkley at his front post but didn't have much to do after that. 7

Japhet Tanganga

Started his third successive game and coped well on the whole. Nice did look to threaten down their left with Barkley seeing a lot of the ball. 6

Davinson Sanchez

Captained the team against Nice but had some moments to forget with some sloppy play and a few mistakes. Did make a good block to stop Nicolas Pepe testing Forster, however. 5

Clement Lenglet

On the left of the back three and looked to get forward on a few occasions. Not exactly troubled at the back. 6

Emerson Royal

Back in the team after his injury as he took the place of the absent Djed Spence. Not so many opportunities to attack but he did embark on a good run through the middle that culminated in a chance for Bryan Gil. 6

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Pulled on a Tottenham shirt for the first time since the World Cup and kept the ball ticking over in midfield. Put himself about as always to make life difficult for the visitors. 6

Yves Bissouma

Used the ball well, including a brilliant crossfield pass to Matt Doherty on the left flank. A real positive display from the Mali international as he impressed in the middle and wasn't far off from netting. 8

Matt Doherty

At left wing-back again and wasn't far off connecting with Bissouma's corner inside the first couple of minutes. Wouldn't have to wait long to find the net for the third successive game after a powerful drive from inside the box that gave Kasper Schmeichel no chance. Really impressive first 45 minutes with some good running and passing. 8

Dejan Kulusevski

Saw an early free-kick saved by Schmeichel but soon turned provider as he picked out Doherty with a precise pass. Used the ball well as always. 7

Harvey White

Started in the front three once again and showed some good touches. Won a free-kick on the edge of the area which was in a perfect position for him to take given his set piece quality, yet Kulusevski was the man to step up instead. 7

Bryan Gil

Volleyed over inside the opening five minutes with Spurs' first chance of the game. Saw plenty of the ball throughout and looked bright, although the final action was missing on a few occasions. 7
