Tottenham vs Newcastle LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and fan reaction

Tottenham vs Newcastle LIVE - (John Walton/PA Wire)

Tottenham vs Newcastle LIVE

It is little exaggeration to brand this as Spurs’ biggest game since the Europa League final. Unthinkable even a few weeks ago, but Thomas Frank’s side now find themselves in a relegation battle, and a tricky fixture list provides few opportunities, on paper at least, to pick up points. Tonight is one Spurs simply must win.

Newcastle have a fine recent record against tonight’s host, having lost just once in eight meetings, which represents a significant turn of the tide after a sustained period of dominance from Spurs. Both teams are also walking wounded, with Spurs without eleven first-team players with the inclusion of banned captain Cristian Romero.

The visitors are sweating over the fitness of Anthony Gordon and Lewis Miley, while Joelinton and Tino Livramento have long been ruled out. Perhaps not a game which promises quality, but certainly drama. Follow the game LIVE below with our dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from Sam Tabuteau at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Deafening boos at full-time, Frank's time feels like it is up.

That said, we have been here before and he has outlived many a poor result during his time in charge. Time will tell.

A few chants of ‘we want Frank out’ from the home fans before a bellowing cry of sacked in the morning.

There are not many Spurs fans left here, but those who remain are making their feelings heard.

Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle

21:25 , Alex Young

90min: Late blow for Newcastle as Bruno limps out with a possible hamstring injury.

Hall is on.

Six minutes added.

Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle

21:22 , Alex Young

89min: West Ham have taken the lead over Manchester United, which is very bad news for Spurs. Still at least 40 minutes to play in that one, though.

Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle

21:20 , Alex Young

87min: It will be backs to the wall for Newcastle in the final minutes.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

21:15 , Alex Young

Gallagher looks distraught on the bench. He knows his error could be the difference here tonight and with just under 10 to play, Frank's future is firmly in the balance.

81min: Spurs win their second corner. Could they again?

Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle

21:05 , Alex Young

71min: Gallagher is replaced by Kolo Muani.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

21:03 , Alex Young

That did not take long. Spurs' optimism is burst in an instant as Ramsey scored after excellent footwork from Gordon.

Cheap from Gallagher to give away possession before being turned inside out by Gordon. Gallagher's night ends there as he is replaced.

GOAL!

21:02 , Alex Young

68min: A brilliant finish from Ramsey, who tucks home from inside the area!

Spurs fall behind again almost immediately.

Tottenham 1-1 Newcastle

21:01 , Alex Young

67min: Simons now gets booked for a dreadful dive.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

21:00 , Alex Young

Spurs have been building pressure and they have their equaliser.

It is Gray and Sarr, both at fault for the first goal, who combine to get Spurs level.

Sarr heads across and Gray taps the ball home from close range. Another tale of two halves for Spurs it seems.

Tottenham 1-1 Newcastle

20:59 , Alex Young

65min: Checked and cleared. Spurs are level.

GOAL!

20:58 , Alex Young

64min: Spurs win their first corner, and make the most of it!

VAR will take a look at Pope thinks he is obstructed.

Tottenham 0-1 Newcastle

20:56 , Alex Young

62min: A poor pass from Gallagher means Spence is in a foot race with Elanga to get the race, which is loses and then gets booked for his troubles.

Tottenham 0-1 Newcastle

20:54 , Alex Young

61min: Palhinha kicks a free kick straight out of play, when looking for Tel on the opposite flank.

Tottenham 0-1 Newcastle

Tottenham 0-1 Newcastle

20:50 , Alex Young

56min: Newcastle are starting to retreat. Spurs must keep up the pressure.

Tottenham 0-1 Newcastle

20:48 , Alex Young

54min: Elanga throws himself to the deck and Spurs are immediately on the counter, which ends with Sarr stinging Pope’s palms.

Tottenham 0-1 Newcastle

20:47 , Alex Young

53min: That’s a chance for Tel!

Gray bundles his way down the right flank and into the area, and his cutback to the forward has a little too much on it.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

20:44 , Alex Young

Here come the Pochettino chants.

Spurs are already on the back foot in the second half and have been lucky not to give away a couple of penalties with some desperate last-ditch tackles.

Tottenham 0-1 Newcastle

20:42 , Alex Young

48min: Spence extremely lucky to not give away a penalty, and it’s wave after wave of Newcastle attacks.

Spurs simply cannot get out of the half. Again.

Tottenham 0-1 Newcastle

20:41 , Alex Young

47min: Newcastle straight back on the front foot, helped by a very poor clearance from Vicario.

So much nervousness from Spurs.

Second half

20:39 , Alex Young

46min: And we’re back underway.

20:38 , Alex Young

Palhinha is coming on, replacing Bissouma.

Fan view

20:33 , Alex Young

20:32 , Alex Young

Palhinha looks like he may be coming on at half-time.

20:26 , Alex Young

Spurs were let off with Willock's goal, then put one on a plate for Thiaw.

Another miserable display, and a huge 45 minutes to come.

Half-time

20:23 , Alex Young

52min: A hammer blow for Spurs, that.

GOAL!

20:22 , Alex Young

51min: Spurs still cannot hold on until half-time!

Thiaw gets on the end of a cross, his first header is saved by Vicario, but not out of danger, so the defender mops up from close range.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

20:20 , Alex Young

48min: We are into five minutes of added time. That will likely be extended too.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

20:19 , Alex Young

The offside flag saves Spurs' blushes. Newcastle think they have the lead right before half-time as Joe Willock finishes from Jacob Ramsey's through ball, but Willock is narrowly off as he beats Van de Ven to the ball. A huge let off for Spurs.

NO GOAL!

20:18 , Alex Young

47min: Oh, wow. It’s ruled out! A reprieve for Spurs just before the break.

Willock is judged to be millimetres offside.

Tottenham 0-1 Newcastle

20:17 , Alex Young

46min: There is a VAR check, to see if Willock is offside. He looks on to me.

GOAL!

20:16 , Alex Young

44min: It’s been coming!

Spurs give the ball away and Newcastle are straight on the attack, Willock is played through, cuts inside and finishes superbly inside the far post.

41min: An awful dive from Sarr, which earns him a yellow card.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

20:10 , Alex Young

39min: Tel is now on the left-hand side, with Simons in the centre and perhaps Gallagher on the right?

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

20:06 , Alex Young

35min: Tel is on, Odobert walks straight down the tunnel.

Replays suggest he buckled his knee.

(Action Images via Reuters)

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

20:04 , Alex Young

33min: Odobert still down, receiving treatment. Tel looks like the man to replace him.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

20:03 , Alex Young

Odobert’s team-mates are huddled over him, this does not look great.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

20:02 , Alex Young

31min: Concern now for Odobert, who comes off worse from a challenge with Barnes.

Tel and Kolo Muani are on the bench.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

20:01 , Alex Young

30min: Half an hour gone and Newcastle have had nine corners.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

20:00 , Alex Young

That is more like it from Spurs. Two meaty tackles from Van de Ven and Simons and the crowd react.

They have been passive so far, but finally there is a bit of life in their display. Now, Frank will hope, they can start to get the ball down and play.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

20:00 , Alex Young

28min: A bit of a sustained possession from Spurs, but there is still not enough movement to worry Newcastle. In the end, Van de Ven and then Simons are needed to pull off big tackles.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

19:55 , Alex Young

25min: Spurs are trying to go long, and Newcastle are mopping up everything with no trouble.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

19:54 , Alex Young

23min: Simons feeds Solanke into the box, who goes down under pressure from Thiaw but there is nothing in it.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

19:53 , Alex Young

22min: Spurs are playing as the away team, looking to counter, and the fans are not happy.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

19:50 , Alex Young

Spence is really struggling here as he lets a pass in behind him, Newcastle cross and Vicario just about clears from under his crossbar.

Spurs can't get out right now.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

19:49 , Alex Young

17min: Newcastle are racking up the corners. It’s almost inevitable that Newcastle will score.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

19:47 , Alex Young

Elanga is being given a lot of time and space to make things happen out on the right flank.

Spurs have not been aggressive enough in the opening 15 minutes and Newcastle are gaining encouragement.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

19:46 , Alex Young

15min: Newcastle looking dangerous every time they attack, focusing on the right-hand side. Spence and Van de Ven have their hands full.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

19:44 , Alex Young

13min: Vicario boots a free kick straight out of play.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

19:42 , Alex Young

11min: A very neat backheel from Barnes almost out-foxes Vicario.

Elanga is being given far too much time and space on the wing.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

19:40 , Alex Young

9min: Willock lines up a shot from the edge of the area, but drags his shot inches wide of the far post.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

19:39 , Alex Young

First shot for Spurs after an excellent touch from Simons to bring down Gallagher's cross. The shot itself is skewed into the side netting, but promising signs on the break for the hosts.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

19:39 , Alex Young

7min: Simons is found in space inside the area, stands up Botman and shoots at goal, but can only find the near side netting.

Frank applauds the effort.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

19:36 , Alex Young

6min: Nice set-piece delivery from Spence, arrowed to the back post to find Dragusin, but it had a little too much spice on it.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

19:35 , Alex Young

5min: The first time Odobert gets into a foot race with Burn, and it’s a blood bath.

The winger then tries to find Simons in the area, and his flick towards Solanke is cut out.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

19:34 , Alex Young

4min: Very, very good defending from Solanke to take the ball off Thiaw’s toe in the six-yard box.

A positive start from Newcastle.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

19:33 , Alex Young

3min: Heart-in-mouth for Dragusin as the ball bounces off him and over the bar, giving away another corner.

That could have gone anywhere.

Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

19:32 , Alex Young

2min: Great cross from Willock, is defended by Bissouma to give away the first corner.

Thomas Frank to TNT Sports

19:12 , Alex Young

"For me, any good team effort is both ways. We need to go out there and show that we fight for every inch on the pitch and be front-footed and start well. But the more the fans are behind us, the better.

"I think we have been very irritated that we haven't won in too long time. That irritation needs to be generated into positive energy. We need to use it in every duel, and everything."

Eddie Howe to TNT Sports

19:11 , Alex Young

"Really good to have [Gordon] back. He is a top player and brings his qualities. He is direct and it is great to have him back.

"We are trying to manage everyone's load. Today, an opportunity for JJ [Ramsey] and Joe Willock to impress and we feel we need their pace and athleticism in our team today.

"We have had a number of players who have played at not their best physical level in recent weeks. I wanted to mix things up. I like the team we have picked and now it is on us to perform.

"The target for us is to start really well and show our intent in the game. I want to see an enthusiasm and desire and if we show that, I think we will do well."

Curious team news from Newcastle.

Both Wissa and Woltemade are dropped to the bench, along with Hall, as Gordon shakes off an injury for a surprise start.

Is Howe looking to press high? No doubt we’ll see one, or likely both, strikers in the second half.

Tonight is a must-win game for Tottenham, and they make three changes from the weekend’s defeat to Manchester United.

Dragusin, Bissouma and Spence, back from a calf injury, come into the side, while there is still no place in the starting lineup for Tel.

Van de Ven captains the team in the absence of Romero, who starts a four-game suspension.

Howe also under pressure

18:00 , Alex Young

Thomas Frank is not the only manager under pressure tonight.

Eddie Howe has now overseen three defeats on the spin, and Newcastle are winless in five games.

In light of a miserable home defeat to Brentford at the weekend, Howe has insisted that he is the man for the job, but says he is prepared to walk away if that changes.

“There's no doubt in my mind [that I can improve the form], and that's why I'm sat here,” He told reporters. “If there was, then I wouldn't be because, as I said, the club is the most important thing.

"I'd never put myself before the club. If I didn't think I was the correct man to take the team forward and I could give the players what they need, then I would step aside and let someone else do it."

Dragusin 'ready to go' for Tottenham after long road back from injury

17:51 , Alex Young

For the first time since September 2024, Radu Dragusin and Micky van de Ven are set to start together at the heart of the Tottenham defence against Newcastle tonight.

The last time that happened was the first game of Spurs’ Europa League triumph, which ended in a comfortable 3-0 win over Qarabag on a night Dragusin was sent off after eight minutes.

Dragusin has spent the last year out with a serious knee injury but Cristian Romero’s red card and Kevin Danso’s toe injury means he is set for a prolonged run back in the side.

Thrust together following Romero’s dismissal at Old Trafford at the weekend, Dragusin and Van de Ven worked well with each other despite the 2-0 defeat.

Spurs dug in and, while they never truly looked like getting anything out of the game after going behind, they remained resolute in the face of mounting United pressure, with Dragusin and Van de Ven marshalling a disciplined defensive performance.

There is, however, only so much credit you can give Spurs for their resilience in a game that had escaped them before half-time.

Dragusin and Van de Ven faced up to United’s frontline, attacking crosses, engaging the ball and covering in behind when necessary, but they could face an altogether different challenge tonight.

Frank sends message to Tottenham fans calling for Pochettino return

17:43 , Alex Young

Thomas Frank says Tottenham “desperately need” their supporters’ backing as they look for a first league win of 2026 at home to Newcastle.

Spurs’ season hit a new low on Saturday as they fell to within six points of the relegation zone following their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.

Frank’s side have won just seven of their 25 league games this season, and are now in must-win territory ahead of Tuesday’s game at home to fellow strugglers Newcastle.

Pressure remains on Frank, despite somewhat improved performances, with a small number of fans chanting for former manager Mauricio Pochettino at Old Trafford.

“There's no doubt we are desperate to win games,” Frank said. “Desperate. And I'm focusing on Newcastle tomorrow.

“That's a great opportunity ahead of us against a good team. That's the main thing. Can we go out there and get three points tomorrow? That would be very good.

“And then climb from there and look forward. That's what we need to do. And that's the main focus.

“When you haven't won enough, you need to be desperate, because if you're not desperate, you don't understand the situation you're in, in terms of you don't win enough, you need to turn it, and win enough football games.

“That's what we want for the fans, that's what we want for the team, for the club.”

Score prediction

17:28 , Alex Young

A battle between two teams struggling with form, fitness and confidence, and in desperate need of points, this could be a game high on incident but low on quality.

Spurs were not entirely outplayed with 10 men at Old Trafford at the weekend, and were able to create chances against a Manchester United team who remain unconvincing.

Chances will be there for the taking on home soil, but a patched-up defence will also provide their visitors with opportunities.

Draw, 2-2.

Early Newcastle team news

17:19 , Alex Young

Newcastle have plenty of injury woes of their own, with Lewis Miley and Anthony Gordon doubts to return, and Joelinton, Fabian Schar and Tino Livramento all sidelined for the foreseeable.

Jacob Murphy and Joe Willock are likely to make way for summer flips Jacob Ramsey and Anthony Elanga, while Nick Woltemade should come in over Yoane Wissa. Emil Krafth is out.

(REUTERS)

Early Tottenham team news

17:12 , Alex Young

Tottenham have been forced into a defensive reshuffle tonight, with Cristian Romero suspended and Destiny Udogie ruled out for at least a month.

Romero is banned for four games after his red card at Old Trafford at the weekend and Udogie has been sidelined for “four to five weeks” with another hamstring injury.

Kevin Danso is still “weeks away” from a return from a toe injury, so Radu Dragusin is in line to make his first start in over a year.

Djed Spence is fit to return after two games out with a calf injury, in some good news for Spurs ahead what feels like another big game for Thomas Frank.

With Spence and Brazilian left-back Souza fit and available, Frank could opt to revert to a three-man defence after utilising a 4-3-3 against United.

However, with Souza yet to start since signing from Santos for £13million in January, Frank is likely to play Spence at left-back and Archie Gray at right-back.
