Tottenham vs Manchester United LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and reaction after late drama

Manchester United left it late to earn a point against Tottenham - (Getty Images)

Tottenham vs Manchester United LIVE

The final round of Premier League fixtures before the international break kicked-off with a repeat of last season’s Europa League final as Tottenham faced resurgent Manchester United on Saturday afternoon. Spurs emerged victorious on that night in Bilbao, but were unable to record a fifth straight win over the Red Devils.

This repeat of the showdown in May looked set to go the way of Ruben Amorim's side after Bryan Mbeumo haunted old Brentford boss Thomas Frank with a goal in the 32nd minute, but the hosts' turned it around with substitute Mathys Tel producing an 84th-minute equaliser. When Richarlison deflected in a shot by the excellent Wilson Odobert in the first minute of stoppage time, Thomas Frank looked set to get the statement home win in the league his five-month tenure had lacked.

Yet wild home celebrations were followed by more late drama as Matthijs de Ligt powered home a header from a corner in the sixth minute of added time to earn United a 2-2 draw and extended their unbeaten run under Amorim to five matches. Follow Tottenham vs Man United back below with Standard Sport's dedicated match blog, featuring expert analysis from Matt Verri!

Will we see a winner?

Tottenham 1-1 Manchester United

14:16 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

88 min: Romero has gone off to be replaced by Danso. Meanwhile, Sesko s struggling for Man United and heads straight down the tunnel.

Visitors have used up all their subs which means they are now down to 10.

Tottenham 1-1 Manchester United

14:14 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

85 min: WHAT A TACKLE!

Sesko is in, clear through on goal, but Van de Ven gets back to make a superb tackle.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

14:13 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

And Tel is the man who gets Spurs level! Great touch and swivel, deserved the luck with the slight deflection for the finish. Still plenty of time for either side to win this.

GOAL! Tottenham 1-1 Manchester United | Mathys Tel ‘83

14:12 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

83 min: TOTTENHAM ARE LEVEL

Instant impact from Mathys Tel as he brings Spurs level. His effort takes a deflection off De Light but the home side do not care.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

14:07 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Frank's decision to take off Simons brings loud boos around the stadium. Tel as the No10 for the closing stages as Spurs push for an equaliser.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

14:06 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

78 min: Double Tottenham substitution.

ON: Tel and Bentancur

OFF: Xavi and Palhinha

Dorgu is booked for an earlier tackle on Spence.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

14:03 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

75 min: Dorgu looks like he is going nowhere but does well to win a free-kick in a dangerous position. Fernandes to swing this in...

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:59 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

71 min: Triple Man Utd change.

ON: Ugarte, Mount, Yoro.

OFF: Casemiro, Cunha, Maguire.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:58 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

70 min: Looks like a pulled hamstring for Maguire. Man Utd don’t put the ball out of play though and they almost score again but Fernandes lifts his effort over the bar.

Maguire getting treatment now, highly unlikely he will continue.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:57 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

69 min: Almost an immediate impact from Udogie but his final pass is poor when he had several team-mates in the box just waiting for a better ball.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

13:55 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Telling that it was Porro rather than Spence who came off for Udogie. Porro has struggled against Mbeumo and has had a fair few sloppy moments on the ball.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:55 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

67 min: Pedro Porro makes way for Udogie. A change that should see Spence swap flanks as the Italian takes up a position on the left-hand side.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:53 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

65 min: There was a brief check for a Spurs penalty after the ball hit Maguire’s hand in the box. Judged to be accidental and play continues.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

13:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

If Richarlison looked up, Odobert was completely free to his left. Instead he slides in Johnson who was well offside and the finish counts for nothing.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

62 min: Johnson has the ball in the net, but the goal will not stand as the Spurs attacker was in an offside position when Richarlison played the ball.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:48 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

60 min: Pedro Porro is caught by Mbeumo’s elbow, totally accidental, but the Spurs defender is not happy with the Manchester United goalscorer.

He receives treatment and is back up on his feet. Though he will have to go off for 30 seconds, as per the rules.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:47 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

59 min: Positive change that by Amorim. Would imagine Sesko joins Cunha and Mbeumo in attack, with Amad reverting to a familiar wing-back role.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:46 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

58 min: Man United make their first change as Sesko replaces Mazraoui.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

13:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Spurs having their first spell of good pressure in the match, as Lammens saves from Romero and Palhinha. Home fans responding too, different feel to the match now.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:44 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

56 min: Lammens makes another save, this time to deny Palhinha. Really good stop as the United keeper saw that late.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:42 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

54 min: Finally a shot on target from Spurs as Romero flicks Odobert’s cross towards goal but Lammens gets down sharply to make a fine save from close range.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:39 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

52 min: Some worrying stats flying around for Spurs. Alarmingly, they are still to have a shot on target today.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:37 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

49 min: Casemiro needs a moment after being caught late by Sarr in the middle of the park.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:36 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

48 min: Cunha gets in behind the Spurs defence and pulls the ball back but Amad can’t get on the end of it.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

13:34 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Odobert on at half time for Spurs to replace Kolo Muani. Richarlison moves up front. Something had to change after a fairly uninspiring 45 minutes in attack.

Bryan Mbeumo is in fine form!

Tottenham vs Manchester United live

13:22 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Here is the goal that separates the two teams at the break.

Good finish by Bryan Mbeumo, but totally avoidable from a Tottenham perspective.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

13:19 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Not as loud as it has been at other home matches in the league so far, but some boos at half time from sections of the Spurs supporters. Three shots - none on target. A familiar story.

HALF-TIME

13:18 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

Porro’s poor cross sums up that half for Spurs.

Mbeumo’s goal is the difference at the break.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:17 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

45 min: Board goes up...one additional minute right as Spurs lose possession after opting against putting the ball into the box.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:16 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

44 min: Johnson wins a corner for Spurs in what could prove to be their last chance of the half. Out-swinger from Porro which is headed away powerfully by De Ligt.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:12 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

41 min: Groans from the Spurs fans as Richarlison makes a run that comes to nothing with De Ligt too strong for the Brazilian who looks to be struggling out there on the left.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:09 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

38 min: What a signing Bryan Mbeumo has been for Manchester United. That’s goals against Liverpool and Tottenham away from home this season.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

13:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

36 min: Bit of over confidence from Van de Ven as he tries to dribble out from the back but Casemiro pinches the ball off him. Credit to the Spurs defender though as he gets back to win possession.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

13:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

So poor from Sarr for that goal. Should have cleared it up the pitch, instead played it back to Van de Ven and Spurs were straight back in trouble. Van de Ven had words with him after Mbeumo's header found the back of the net.

GOAL! Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United | Bryan Mbeumo ‘32

13:03 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

32 min: MANCHESTER UNITED LEAD!

Deadlock broken and it’s Bryan Mbeumo with the header after Tottenham fail to clear their lines.

Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United

13:01 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

30 min: We have reached the half hour mark in north London. Not a great deal of quality so far, Man Utd have come the closest to breaking the deadlock through Cunha.

Spurs not quite at the races yet.

Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United

12:59 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

28 min: Yellow card for Johnson, not sure why.

Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United

12:59 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

27 min: Good tracking back from Johnson to bail out Spence after he struggled to deal with a persistent Amad. Man United now have a corner, just seconds after defending one.

Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United

12:58 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

26 min: Xavi Simons does well to carry Spurs up the pitch and retain possession despite a lack of support. Spence then wins a corner thanks to a De Ligt clearance.

Chance for Spurs here.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

12:56 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

The long-throw obsession has reached the stage where teams are trying them seemingly without thinking whether they have anyone who can actually throw the ball very far. Dorgu's effort barely reached the box.

Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United

12:54 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

22 min: HANDBALL???

Man United players and supporters are appealing for handball against Richarlison following the corner. VAR have checked and cleared the incident, no penalty.

Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United

12:53 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

21 min: CHANCE!

Cunha forces his way through but sees his shot turned behind by Vicario.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

12:52 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Massive roar as Van de Ven skips past his man well inside his own half... and groans when he then plays a safe pass rather than running the length of the pitch again. High standards.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

12:48 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

First real bit of quality in the match and it's brilliant from Johnson. Cuts inside, perfect cross with his weaker foot and somehow Richarlison fails to make contact with the header. Should have scored.

Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United

12:43 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

12 min: Speaking of Kolo Muani, he runs straight into Maguire and needs a moment to collect himself.

He is fine continue.

Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United

12:43 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

11 min: Richarlison is out on the left for Spurs, meaning Kolo Muani is tasked with leading the line. The Frenchman has already shown decent link-up play to combine with Johnson.

Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United

12:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

8 min: Johnson does well to get in between Maguire and De Ligt but his touch takes the ball out of play.

Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United

12:39 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

7 min: Promising Spurs attack is halted as Xavi slips over. United break, Fernandes plays in Mbeumo who opts to square the ball instead of shooting but none of his team-mates were on his wave-length.

Flag was raised in any case.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

12:37 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Only five minutes in and United have already twice gone close to getting in behind. Does feel like Mbeumo or Amad are going to time their runs before long and cause Spurs big problems.

Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United

12:36 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

5 min: Mbeumo is operating on the left of Man Utd’s front three as Amad pushes up on the opposite slide. Slight surprise from Amorim, but Cunha is down the middle as expected.

Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United

12:34 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

2 min: Deep corner from Spurs towards the back post looking for Kolo Muani but the delivery is too strong.

Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United

12:32 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

1 min: First shot of the game is Tottenham’s as Xavi Simons sees an effort charged down by Luke Shaw.

Lammens then allows the ball to roll out of play, handing Spurs an early corner...

Can Xavi Simons impress

It’s a big game for Xavi Simons today. The Dutchman has struggled since arriving in the summer, but was bright against Copenhagen in midweek and should have had a hat-trick of assists.

Manchester United's away form

While Tottenham's abysmal home form has been well documented, it's worth remembering Manchester United have won just once on their travels this season.

That was at Anfield last month, though they have been beaten by Grimsby, Manchester City and Brentford.

Team news reminder

Here is how both teams will line-up today.

Tottenham XI: Vicario, Palhinha, Xavi, Richarlison, Romero, Johnson, Pedro Porro, Spence, Sarr, van de Ven, Kolo Muani.

Substitutes: Kinsky, Danso, Tel, Udogie, Odobert, Bentancur, Scarlett, Akhamrich, Rowswell.

Manchester United XI: Lammens; De Ligt, Maguire, Shaw; Mazraoui, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu; Amad, Mbeumo; Cunha

Substitutes: Bayindir, Dalot, Heaven Yoro, Mount, J.Fletcher, Ugarte, Sesko, Zirkzee.

Who is Jack Fletcher?

11:55 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Kobbie Mainoo’s absence through injury means Jack Fletcher is named on the Manchester United bench today.

The England Under-19 midfielder is the son of former Man United midfielder and the club’s current Under-18’s coach, Darren.

United continue their proud record of having an academy player in every matchday squad for over 4,000 games, dating back to 1937.

To say Tottenham have had Manchester United’s number since 2022 would be an understatement.

Manchester United changes

11:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

It is also three changes for the visitors as Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, Harry Maguire and Noussair Mazraoui come into the side at the expense of Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro and Benjamin Sesko.

This also means a change of system with Matheus Cunha likely to lead the line.

Tottenham changes

11:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Thomas Frank makes three changes to the Tottenham team that started the 4-0 win over Copenhagen in midweek.

Djed Spence, Joao Palhinha and Richarlison return as Destiny Udogie, Rodrigo Bentancur and Wilson Odobert make way.

The big news for Spurs is no Mohammed Kudus in the matchday squad.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

11:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

That's a bit of a rogue lineup from Frank. Odobert and Udogie looked really good as a partnership in midweek, but they both drop out. Richarlison and Kolo Muani start together for the first time - would imagine one of them will be off the left.

No Kudus in the squad a big blow.

Kevin Danso interview

11:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Kevin Danso is in a fairly unique position in the Tottenham squad in that he knows even his best form will often not be enough to get in the team. Injuries to Cristian Romero or Micky van de Ven are his route into the team, or stepping in when one of them needs resting.

“That’s part of being at a top club that’s at the top of world football, like Spurs is," Danso says.

"You have players in every position that are top, top quality. Micky and Cuti are exactly that. I understand that and I’m very realistic. My role is to just play as best as possible, try and get in the team. If not, also understand that’s part of football. I believe in myself."

Ruben Amorim confident

11:00 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Across four meetings between the two sides in all competitions last season, Spurs won every single game and did so without conceding a goal in three of them. The standout fixture being the Europa League final as Brennan Johnson’s scruffy goal settled the tie.

The win ended Tottenham’s long wait for a major trophy and earned qualification to the Champions League, leaving the Red Devils empty handed and without any European football for this season.

Ruben Amorim was in charge of three of those matches after succeeding Erik ten Hag a year ago and goes into the weekend clash hoping to avoid yet another loss to the north London outfit.

Frank makes Mbeumo prediction

10:55 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Thomas Frank is confident Bryan Mbeumo will be a "fantastic success" at Manchester United as he hailed his former player's impact at Old Trafford.

Mbeumo spent six years under Frank at Brentford, scoring 20 Premier League goals last season to earn himself a summer move to United.

The 26-year-old has hit the ground running and is United's top scorer with four goals, netting in the win over Liverpool at Anfield and then scoring a brace a week later against Brighton.

Frank predicted Mbeumo will go on to achieve big things at Old Trafford, even if he hopes that is paused when his Tottenham side host United.

Predicted Manchester United XI

10:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Harry Maguire may be in contention to start as one of the three central defenders to help combat Tottenham’s set-piece strengths as well as posing a threat of his own in the opposition box.

Ruben Amorim is expected to keep faith in goalkeeper Senne Lammens, while Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes should continue as the midfield double pivot.

There could be a change in attack with Matheus Cunha operating as a false nine.

Predicted Manchester United XI: Lammens; De Ligt, Maguire, Shaw; Amad, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dalot; Mbeumo, Cunha, Mount.

(London Standard)

Predicted Tottenham XI

10:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Xavi Simons had his best performance in a Spurs shirt in the win over Copenhagen. Therefore, he should line up in the No10 role again, with Joao Palhinha set to return to the starting lineup behind him.

Destiny Udogie impressed in that match and will hope to keep his place in the side, which would mean Djed Spence having to settle for a spot on the bench.

Up front, Randal Kolo Muani has started the last two games and played 70 minutes in both but should now be up to speed enough to once again get the nod over Richarlison.

Predicted Tottenham XI (4-2-3-1): Vicario, Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Palhinha, Bentancur; Kudus, Simons, Odobert; Kolo Muani.

(London Standard)

Tottenham can use Man Utd record as a springboard

10:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Three things were certain for Tottenham last season: injuries, daily reminders of Ange Postecoglou's second-season trophy quote, and wins over Manchester United, writes Matt Verri.

Four times Spurs faced United and four times they beat them, the last of those coming in the Europa League final in Bilbao.

It is now more than three years since Spurs lost against them. If that run goes on much longer, Thomas Frank might be tempted by a "Lads, it's Man United" pre-match team talk.

This is another big game for the north Londoners, as they all seem to be at the moment in the hunt for clues as to where exactly they are under Frank.

Tottenham vs Manchester United score prediction

10:20 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

This could go either way, as the two kings of inconsistency face off.

Spurs looked more polished in their moments, while United have begun to look more cohesive as a unit as Amorim’s system begins to take shape.

The visitors’ front three of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko is starting to gel, while Bruno Fernandes is adapting better to his position in the midfield pivot.

That said, if Spurs’ workhorse duo Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha can ruffle feathers in the engine room, it might give the home side that extra edge.

Tottenham to win, 2-1.

Manchester United team news

10:15 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Ruben Amorim has a near fully fit squad to choose from, though appears to have made a decision on Lisandro Martinez's inclusion.

The Argentine defender returned to full training last week after recovering from an ACL injury but was not included in the matchday squad against Nottingham Forest seven days ago due to needing more time.

Reports claim Martinez has not travelled to north London, while Kobbie Mainoo has been ruled out.

Tottenham team news

10:10 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Tottenham will make a late decision over the fitness of Mohammed Kudus for the lunchtime clash with Manchester United.

The winger missed the midweek Champions League win over Copenhagen with a knock and speaking after the match said the injury was "getting better".

No player has provided more Premier League assists this season than Kudus, but it is uncertain whether he will be back to face United.
