Watch Tottenham Vs Ipswich highlights as the Tractor Boys stunned Spurs to gain their first Premier League win of the campaign.
Ipswich arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as huge underdogs. Kieran McKenna’s side had drawn five times in their first ten games back in the Premier League – more than any other side.
But still chasing their first win, Ipswich started the day in the bottom three. That all changed thanks to goals from new signings Liam Delap and Sammie Szmodics.
The duo put the Suffolk side 2-0 up in the first half, before Tottenham pulled one back through Rodrigo Bentancur just after the hour-mark.
Szmodics’ opener was an acrobatic, overhead finish that sent the away end into rapture. Delap then doubled Ipswich’s advantage with an opportunistic reaction from close range.
Bentancur’s goal from a corner gave Spurs hope, but Ange Postecoglou’s lacklustre hosts could not find an equaliser.
Despite dominating possession with 67% of the ball and having 17 shots to Ipswich’s five, Tottenham were kept out by a defiant Ipswich rearguard.
Five crucial saves from Ipswich keeper Arijanet Muric denied the hosts a point late on, with the game running in to ten added minutes at the end.
Watch: Tottenham Vs Ipswich Highlights
Ipswich’s first league win since promotion back to the Premier League sees them climb out of the relegation zone.
They head into the international break one point above 18th-placed Crystal Palace.
Tottenham, meanwhile, continue to slip further down the table. Spurs are now in tenth place, though only three points adrift of third-placed Nottingham Forest.
Such is the congestion in midfield that only four points now separate Forest in third from Manchester United in 13th.
Following the international period, Ipswich Town next face United at home on Sunday 24 November.
For Spurs, their next fixture is a trip to champions Manchester City on Saturday 23 November.
City lost 2-1 at Brighton to mark their fourth consecutive loss, something that hasn’t happened since 2006.
Spurs will be hoping to repeat the victory they achieved over City in the EFL Cup last month.
