Tottenham vs Atletico Madrid LIVE
Atletico Madrid withstood a rousing Tottenham Hotspur fightback to reach the Champions League quarter-finals 7-5 on aggregate despite a 3-2 loss in north London on Wednesday. Diego Simeone's side, who scored four times in the opening 22 minutes in last week's 5-2 first-leg home romp, wobbled under a home onslaught but goals by Julian Alvarez and David Hancko ultimately gave them breathing space.
Although they bowed out, Tottenham did so with their pride restored as interim manager Igor Tudor enjoyed his first win in six games since taking charge thanks to a Xavi Simons double. They will now try to take some positivity into their Premier League relegation battle while Atletico go on to meet La Liga rivals Barcelona in the quarter-finals.
Tottenham extended their unbeaten home run in Europe to 25 games with a vibrant display that was at odds with what they have produced on their own turf this season. At times, as they steamed forward in a riveting contest, it looked as though it could be a night of glory against the side they beat in the 1963 Cup Winners' Cup final to become the first English club to win a major European trophy.

Matt Verri reports
21:07 , Oli Gent50 mins: Simons making a point of staying down and making sure VAR takes a look at his appeals for a foul. Ruthless counter from Atletico and there was never any other outcome once Alvarez was allowed to turn in the box. That, you would think, is that.

21:06 , Oli Gent48 mins: The worst possible start to the second half for Spurs as Simons thinks he’s fouled, and Atleti counter. Lookman drives inside, and finds Alvarez, who ruthlessly slams home.
Kick off!

Matt Verri reports
20:49 , Oli GentGreat half that from Spurs. Built on the draw with Tottenham to produce their most complete 45 minutes under Tudor so far. This tie is still there to be won, but it'll need an ever bigger effort in the second-half.

20:34 , Oli Gent33 mins: Well then... game on? The Spurs fans certainly believe so, judging from the noise levels all of a sudden. Brilliant cross from Tel and Kolo Muani did the rest. It's at fever pitch inside this stadium now - another one before half-time and it's well and truly on.

Matt Verri reports
20:17 , Oli Gent16 mins: He'll be turning 35 this weekend but it's still just so much fun watching Griezmann. Glides around the pitch, links up play and produces the most sublime little touches and flicks.

10 minute warning!
19:53 , Oli GentWho will win this one?
Last night!
19:43 , Oli GentArsenal took on Bayer Leverkusen in their second leg, and Eberechi Eze scored a wondergoal to help the Gunners into the last eight.
Matt Verri reports
19:35 , Oli GentSo Real Madrid beat Manchester City 5-1 on aggregate, and Barcelona are currently 8-3 up on Newcastle with more than ten minutes still remaining. Not exactly been a roaring success from the Premier League sides against their Spanish counterparts. English clubs relying on Spurs to restore some pride...
Fan reaction
19:30 , Oli GentWhy isn't Souza on the bench & 2 GKs are? Neither Richy or Solanke are on the bench either. Its a weird selection. Danso being dropped when he's been our best CB is another odd one.

Nonsense!
19:20 , Oli GentMicky van de Ven hit out at the "nonsense" claims that members of Tottenham's squad were not fully committed to the club's survival bid.
It has been a disastrous season for Spurs and they sit just a point clear of the relegation zone with eight Premier League matches to play.
There was serious pressure on Igor Tudor's position heading into the match against Liverpool on Sunday, even though the interim boss had been in place for barely a month.
Members of the Spurs squad are understood to have had doubts over Tudor's methods and the defeat to Atletico Madrid last week, when Antonin Kinsky was brought off inside 17 minutes, felt like close to a breaking point.
Also tonight!

Matt Verri reports
19:00 , Oli GentLooks like Tudor has turned to the back three again. No Solanke in the squad, but Gallagher is back after a virus and both Udogie and Bergvall being back on the bench is big news for Spurs.
They need a miraculous comeback and the players in that starting lineup are going to have to get most of it done, because that is a bench short of attacking inspiration to put it mildly.
Atletico lineup
18:53 , Oli GentAtletico XI: Musso; Molina, Hancko, Le Normand, Ruggeri; Simeone, Cardoso, Llorente, Lookman; Alvarez, Griezmann
Subs: Esquivel, De Luis, Gimenez, Lenglet, Pubill, Diaz, Koke, Baena, Vargas, Gonzalez, Sorloth, Almada
Tottenham lineup

Tudor given big opportunity ahead of crunch Forest showdown
18:25 , Oli GentLast season, the European campaign was near enough the sole source of joy for Tottenham, Matt Verri writes.
The Premier League was parked to one side, used as little more than a tune-up for the Europa League run that ultimately led to silverware in Bilbao.
These are desperate times, though, and no such luxury exists for Spurs this season.
Never before can a last-16 tie against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League have felt so much like an early undercard fight for the main event of a match at home to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Spurs' identity has been lost, they need a reason to believe
18:16 , Oli GentWalking through the turnstiles of White Hart Lane in the 1980s gave me some of the most poignant memories I have, David Lammy writes,
With my dad by my side and surrounded by a sea of chanting fans in lilywhite and navy, the sense of pride and belonging, and the adrenaline rush that came from watching Villa, Ardiles, Hoddle and all, was like no other.
This was Saturday afternoon working-class culture writ large. We may not have looked like most of the faithful in that old stadium but for 90 minutes, nothing else mattered. We were all one family. We were all Tottenham Hotspur.

Standard Sport prediction
18:00 , Oli GentTottenham’s valiant, deserved draw at Liverpool last weekend gave fans a glimmer of hope that this season may not end in a worst-case scenario.
They displayed a level of fight and desire which has been worryingly absent in recent weeks, and came close to a winner in the dying stages.
Tudor’s wait for a first win in the job goes on, though, and he may well write off this tie so as to focus on keeping Spurs in the Premier League.
The best case for Spurs may be to recoup some sense of honour here after that dismal first leg.
Tottenham to win, 2-1.
Atletico team news
17:54 , Oli GentThe visitors, meanwhile, have relatively few issues. They will be without goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who made some impressive stops in that chaotic first-leg.
Rodrigo Mendoza, who only joined the side in February, is out with a knee problem, and Pablo Barrios is a doubt.
Tottenham team news
17:46 , Oli GentAs has been the case for much of the campaign, Tottenham have a lengthy list of absentees - a remarkable 13 players were unavailable for Sunday’s trip to Liverpool.
There will be several fresh faces returning on Wednesday, though. This includes Lucas Bergvall after he made a surprise return to training on Tuesday and will be on the bench alongside the fit again Destiny Udogie.
Conor Gallagher missed the Liverpool game with a fever, but may be back in contention here, Cristian Romero is on course for a return having observed concussion protocols, but Joao Palhinha is sidelined.
Yves Bissouma is injured and ineligible, while Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur are recovering from long-term injuries, alongside Ben Davies and James Maddison.
Richarlison is suspended for the visit of Atletico after he was booked in the reverse fixture.
