Tottenham set for Man Utd transfer battle as defender heads for exit

Tottenham's rebuild this summer to put together the sort of team that Antonio Conte wants to be able to challenge for top honours is expected to begin with a strengthening of their defence.

Spurs have already been linked with a move for Inter Milan’s Dutch centre back Stefan De Vrijs, and he remains high on their radar.

But Conte is also keen on Villareal star Pau Torres, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter - and it is a fact that he has been on the North London’s club’s radar for some time.

Manchester United are also keen on the 25 year old Spaniard, but Spurs regard him as possibly a better long term bet than De Vrijs - and they are assessing a potential cash plus player swap, with possibly Giovani Lo Celso going the other way. Lo Celso is currently already on loan with Unai Emery’s side.

Toure set for role

Former Manchester City legend Yaya Toure is in line for a position on Tottenham first team coaching staff, according to the The Evening Standard.

Toure, who has been doing his coaching badges while working with the club’s Under 18 team, is in talks with the club.

Toure, 38, is widely regarded as one of the Premier League ’s best-ever midfielders after an eight-year spell at Manchester City. Clocking up 316 games for City, he scored 79 goals and won three Premier League titles.

Since retirement, he has held coaching positions in Ukraine and Russia – before moving to Spurs where he has been working with Chris Powell and more.

Toure, who is set to obtain his UEFA A License, is said to have impressed the Spurs coaching staff and is eager to stay on at the club on a full-time basis.

Defender set for exit

Tottenham are ready to sell defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, according to the The Evening Times, with Celtic ready to make his loan deal permanent in the summer.

US international centre back Carter-Vickers, 24, has had a successful loan spell at Celtic Park this season.

Celtic have conceded just 21 goals in 36 games in the league as they move towards the Scottish Premiership title. Carter-Vickers had previous loan spells at Sheffield United, Ipswich, Swansea, Stoke, Luton and Bournemouth.

Kane to be celebrated

Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane will be celebrated in a new exhibition at the Museum of London, according to the Evening Standard.

Kane, who grew up in Chingford in East London, has worked with the museum on the display which includes personal memorabilia, including the England shirt he wore on his goal scoring debut and shirts from stints around the capital with Millwall, Leyton Orient and Tottenham.

Other exhibits include Kane’s England captain’s armband and his golden boot from the 2018 World Cup.

Kane said: “The Museum of London got in touch and wanted a Londoner to inspire young children to be their best so I am delighted to have all my memorabilia on show, with trophies, shirts, golden boots and some personal pieces which haven’t been seen publicly before.”
